What mac game was this?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/What mac game was this?

I'm trying to remember the name of a game I played a long time ago on one of them colourful iMac's. It was a game that came default with the machine I believe. Anyways, it was a top-down space game where you started off delivering things to certain places on an ever-expanding map. I remember a lot of the destinations I had to drop stuff off at were like garbage dump sectors or something. Anyways, in time, you could upgrade your ship, like buy guns, or more storage space. You also pretty much chose your enemies, as long as you did what you were told and didn't shoot at random space ships, nobody would be hostile with you. However, I remember one part of the game, when I was delivering something, I spotted an unarmed ship in distress, and faced rescuing it and having to face the big ship attacking it, or I could help destroy it and become friends with the attacker.
Anyways, I didn't exactly play the game for long as it wasn't my iMac, it was my dads girlfriend's (that didn't last long heheh). I just remember it being a lot of fun, even though it was a slower-paced game. It is very close to the new Starscape, and for a while I thought Starscape was a remake of it, but I can't find any info on an original Starscape.

It kind of reminds me of this, it isnt this, but it does remind me of it:

No idea but I recommend EV Nova to you - its sounds very similar and I bet you will like it. There's a demo available.

Nomen: It was deffinately the original Escape Velocity!
I will deffinately try EV Nova then as it appears to be the only Windows compatible one.
Thanks!

Yep. That is Escapve Velocity. I wasted half my highschool days playing that.

EV nova is avalible for both mac and windows also includes a patch to play the first two games (EV, and EV Override). There was even a Blitz3D attempt at a remake a while back, alas I think it was left uncompleted.

they have games... for macs?!?!? :)

The original EV is better than Nova. FYI.

I dunno, I've been playing it, and it seems to be pretty much the same thing (with upgrades) as the original.

Upgrades sometimes break... or at least unbalance... gameplay... Also, graphical upgrades can break gameplay also. For example, Everything about Halo 2 was better than Halo 1, except for the fact that it is more difficult to see the enemy, which hurts the gameplay, and some of the weapons are 'broken' being too weak or too strong, which hurts the gameplay...

Also, people expect a new version of the game to do MORE than just add in some upgrades.. and will say the origional is better... even tho they are the same game... In this case.. People mistake the effort put into makeing the game and the quality of the final product.
