Those numbers are going to dwindle some if the Wii doesn't succeed, I just cant see the same number of people buying the PS3/XBX360 that have with the PS2/XBX, what with the high console price/recommended hardware requirements, along with the raised software prices.
I play manly budget games now. Infact I usually wait about 4/6 months for the price to half before buying anything.
yeah and that way Boomboom, you dont need such a high spec computer :)
yup... i want Call Of Duty2, but won't pay $49 for it... i thought it had been out for a while, but on my last trip to the local Circuit City for ink cartridges, it was still up there...
HL2 Episode One was only $19 though... almost sprung for that, but i needed to get some work done, so i let it stay...

gamer/programmer ratio was probably much higher in the 80's though.
Well, seeing as tho the X360's been around for getting close to a year now, I do have the Premium bundle for the X360, but the only titles I get are from either launch date, or some of the releases from 2005 - early 2006 for the X360, only for the reason that Boomboom said. Same is true with the GameCube, DS, and even the PC. Either the Platinum Hits/Players Choice games, or used games make it into my library, if even those. Outside of that, since the Wii has backwards compatibility to the GameCube, chances are, I may hold onto the 'Cube games until the actual Wii titles are at the used, or old release status, even tho Wii's titles aren't gonna be necessarily as expensive as the other two consoles' games.
I got call of duty 2 free with my video card. Looks nice but its quite repetative.
I didn't like COD2, was too linear and didn't really feel like much more than a rail shooter. At least Operation wolfe gave you a machine gun to shoot heh
Gaming is much bigger than it was in the old days, but only if you include consoles. Computer gaming feels like it has dropped in popularity. But that might just be my age and neighbourhood change. Computer gaming was always more popular than consoles where I grew up in the 80's. Everyone had a Speccy, C64, atari 800XL, BBC or electron. and maybe 2 people I knew of at school had a console. Consoles only really became popular in the early 90's.

I'd have to disagree with Evak. Both computer and console game popularity have grown, it's just that console games have grown at a faster rate.

No, its right. All the games in the 80s were crap really. Originality is very subjective, and we place too much on it.

I don't agree with that. Some games made in the 80's still are great games, and original as well.
Great original games were as rare as they are now. I remember the majority of 80's games being very forgetable. I really think we look at that period with rose tinted spectacles. And that time has enabled us to forget the vast ammount of drivel that came out back then.
Like the huge number of really bad slow paced Iso 3d looking 2D games. ANd the vast number of clones that are as bad as the generic FPS we have today.

That was, until halfway through the decade when Nintendo finally went on a global basis, and changed things for the good part of the last two decades. After all, Miyamoto took the helm since even before the crash of the 80s, and a quarter of a century later, he looks to reinvent the game industry with the Wii, can't say that he's not a hero in this industry, that's for sure...
I'm not keen on Nintendo games at all, but appreciate their contribution.
I play SUper Mario 3 on my PSP as much as I play errr... hmmm. MORE than I play any other game! :S
