Backup Software

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Backup Software

I want to do a full backup of my C drive (Windows, Applications etc). To date I've only been backing up select files, but I've decided to go for full backups from now on.

Can anyone recommend any backup software (free or not) for Windows XP? What's generally regarded as the best app for the job?

Thanks.

Norton Ghost will do the job, as will Nero*. There's a free one somewhere too - will try to find out what its called [edit] I think its called Drive Image, looking for a download.

[edit again!] DriveImage XML

* Nero backups won't restore if you're running WinXP on NTFS.

Yeah you're right Gfk.

Used this one to successfully make a copy of my system disk.

Link in Nomen Luni's post is a more recent version than the one I found, so use that. ;)

Great - Thanks all. I'll give them a whirl...

you can always use the built-in NTBackup:
Program Files -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Backup

It can back up to tape, but also to disk image files. comes with a wizard where you can specify what to include/exclude with the backups... The nice thing about this one is that you don't need any 3rd party software, and can restore from any windows machine.
