... because the other one was gettting tooooo loooong for old people to wait to load all the way up.
guys who added stuff at the tail end of the other one, bump it over to here....
me... i spent the whole day waiting to hear from my lawyer, listening to the theme from The Island (over and over again)... and most importantly, i think i finally learned to unwrap and skin a model correctly...
i think...
i'll post a pic when i'm halfway done with one of the subs...

NO RED STTOOOOPPPP!!!!!!!!!!
me... i spent the whole day waiting to hear from my lawyer, listening to the theme from The Island (over and over again)... and most importantly, i think i finally learned to unwrap and skin a model correctly...
Wait... is this "what did you
achieve today?" or "what did you
do today?"
Red achieves in his fine art of procrastination and the excessive art of triple full stops. When you get to Mike's age, 'anything' is an achievement ;)
correct...

Umm, today I'm trying to convert some spline code to BlitzMax. It's tricky cus I don't understand hardly any of it.
Today I did:
Streaming binary files to and from a database.
Integrated a spell checker into the MSHTML control.
Thought some more about doing a 2D game.
Thought some more about a 2D physics engine.
Started the basic outline for email spam.
Drank far too much beer and wine (still drinking wine), watched Big Brother eviction night (bring back Nikki). Made a to-do list for Sunday so come Monday the businesses I'm doing work are up-to-date with their projects.
3:20am - I'm off to drink my 5th glass of wine and try it on with my fiancee before a good nights sleep :) - The amount of abuse she's been giving my debit card this week at the Next clearance sale should help some what *evil grin*
Tomorrow I'm updating an Excel to HTML catalogue convertor program for a customer and ordering a large amount of chinese, getting drunk and watching a DVD.
Sunday, I shall tend to the gardens (weather depending), play some PS2 games and if I'm in the mood do a few hours work.
Well, it's only 10.25am, so, not much what have I acheived, more, what will I acheive.
Going to write image collision code for my GDI 2D game lib, not sure how to work it, but, I've a couple of routes in my head. May add a particle effect class (just for fun), and hopefully tomorrow, make a scrollable tilemap class.
Basically, I want to make it as easy as possible to make a game in C++, but make various things optional.

"August's What Did You Not Bother to Read Today Thread"
Come on let's face it. I don't read anyone's elses achievements more than 5 words in, I just post at the bottom of the thread with my own achievements like everyone else :)
Come on let's face it. I don't read anyone's elses achievements more than 5 words in,
maybe that's why your achievements as of late have been zero to nil as well...
... or maybe you've just been hypnotized by my ellipses to the point where that's the high point of your day... witing to comment on em.
anyways... read some of what the other guys have been doing... at the very least it might stimulate you into going downstairs and washing your underwear :)

I ordered a new system! Dual Intel 64bit, 4GB RAM, 2x 320gb HD's, raid0 for speed, DVDrw.. and for the rest quite a standard case and videocard.. ^_^

I think I'll use it for email and Word ^_^

Reading about other people's daily activities is like looking at their holiday photos - interesting to those involved but tedious for anyone else.
I can't speak for ENAY, but commenting on Red's use (or rather abuse) of punctuation is not a highlight of my day but it is one of the little things that makes life... worthwhile, and some might say that any activity that contributes to a fulfilling life is the best sort of achievement.
then i suggest that you find a girlfriend...
--Mike
Another one? Surely that can't be good advice. Don't you think that my current girlfriend would be angry?
EDIT:
Oh, almost forgot: ...
yes... a live one this time...
makes all the difference in the world ;)
--Mike
But... But... Digging 'em up is great cardiovascular exercise!
Shouldn't that be 'cadavervascular'? :P
When achievement threads don't descend into sillyness (like above ;-)), I find them a) motivational for myself, b) good places for a chat, and c) *some* posts are interesting if they have "real" achievements in them - I actually find the non-programming ones the best, or maybe success in the games industry ones, as opposed to sorted out algorithm X..
Really? Don't you think that reading long tedious lists (worked on an algorithm, ate a sandwitch, worked on some art, watched Tv, etc.) is a waste of time that you might better spend actually achieving something?
It's unfortunate but true that most modest personal achievements are of no interest to anyone else. You've optimised your pathfinding? Good for you, but I'm not exactly quivering in excitement about it.
what i find interesting is what other people are working on... not so much the this and that of it, but how they approach it... the experiences, their frustrations, their personal satisfaction in overcoming seemingly unsurmountable problems...
stuff like that... sorta the same thing you'd do in a bar with a group of friends... discuss the days small victories and defeats...
--Mike
Er, you don't have to read such threads, y'know. ;)
The subliminal messages that Red hides in the gaps between his triple full stops compel me.
Today I ripped a couple of DVD's ready to be encoded when I go to sleep.
Setup a file server using freenas.
Cleaned the pool.
Tommrow I plan on coding.
I note "ENAY" spouting-on at the beginning of the thread.
Considering the task he was set with regard to Cobra, I certainly hope he will be posting the results soon. He needs to apply his abundant energy in another direction.
I'm still waiting for the invite into your bedroom. Now that would be an achievement worth posting about :)
@JustLuke: Read my post again. I said I'm only interested in "real" achievements, not boring coding ones, and yeah not lists of daily activities which aren't really achievements - mind you if it makes people feel more motivated about their lives, then good for them - I do it too myself; at the end of the day I like to go over everything I achieved, large and small, it's just that I wouldn't list it all on a forum...
Today i experienced my first ever day of payed work: 10-6.
..At a till.
Then came off to eat and check out the response to some tiny project i was working on.. No one read the manual.. If they read the manual.. They wouldnt have had questions.
No one reads manuals.
Learned something for the day maybe?
Well today I mostly worked the day job, but I did have some time time morning to work on a lil game that I started last night. Look at
spryjinx for the kind of game i'm working on.
Basically last night I got all the types in place like a tile type, map type, player type, etc. And got some of the basic setup ready for visual feedback. This morning was spent refining the types and thier interaction between each other (i.e. Dose the player have a refance to the world its in, or dose the world have a list of all the players in it). Also got some visual fxs working , like the wavy water ( done using grabimage atm, but i'll proly just use my render to texture code ). Oh yes and I got a simple jump and - um - jump down method working which is harder then some might think.
.. Next moving tiles which will be easy, and then collectable tiles.. so basically work on tiles.
And yes, I will get back to the RPG project, and i'm still working on the lore (backstory and main story, the wolrd, monsters, npcs, history, etc.).
I just got up, get off my back already.
