Help: Problem with ATI Catalyst 6.7?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Help: Problem with ATI Catalyst 6.7?

I've been running the ATI's 6.7 Catalyst drivers for a few days now without any problems. I've just returned home from work, turned on my PC, and my desktop looks like it's running in 256 colours. I've double checked the settings and it is still configured to run at 32 bit colour.

I ran one of the ATI demos (Assassin) and it looked just fine. Only Windows seems to be having trouble.

Has anyone encountered this before? I don't know if I should blame the latest drivers or not...

Wasn't aware 6.7 was out yet although I've had problems with Catalyst Control Centre crashing in 6.6.

I'll download 6.7 and check it out...

I think you need Cannon.

reinstall the drivers?

I've finally got 6.6 working for me, so I won't be upgrading just yet :)

Sniff, me and my pal "GfK" had the same problem with the 6.6. Not sure I want to install the latest - might even just go back to 6.5

Thanks all. The driver reinstall did the trick (I know I should've tried before posting). If it happens again I'll go back to 6.6. They were trouble free for me...

Well, driver seems OK. However, the 3D preview in Catalyst Control Centre still doesn't work.

6.5= Second screen didn't work.
6.6= repeated drop back to 640x480@256 colour after the ATI CC crashed. My card also decided to do this wierd 1FPS thing on everything whilst it copied the buffer to the screen. I thought i'd blown the card with that weak PSU but apparently it passes all tests on the machine at the shop i'm selling it to :D

So now I've got a Geforce 7600, as of yesterday.

*sigh* Nvidia seem to be going the same way too, with little driver glitches when i start video, change 3D settings and such. They also have an "ATI CC" like control panel now... I think i'm going to revert to the 8x.xx driver range here too.

Have to say, I love the card so far though :)

Strange... It works fine here on my X1900XT...

My brother had a similar problem a while back. He used http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html to completely remove all traces of the drivers (after uninstalling) before re-installing. It seemed to do the trick for him. If my problem surfaces again, I'll be giving this a go before reverting back to the 6.6 drivers.

I hate the ATI drivers. they are very unpredictable.

I run a 9800 Pro, and when ever I put cat drivers near it, it packs in. google omega drivers.

or find an older more stable version of cat.

This is the first time I've ever had a problem with ATI drivers. I much prefer the ATI drivers to nVidia's. I've never regretted the switch from nVidia when I purchased my 9800 Pro all those years ago.

The only drivers I hate are those from Creative. I must replace my Audigy 2 with something completely different...
