Weird Internet Problem

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Weird Internet Problem

Im developing a website with a friend (hes more making it than me) for a game (mod for HL2) im making.

Soon after I updated Firefox to 1.5.0.5, the website refuses to be connected by (the programs ive tried) Firefox, Opera, I can't even ping it! Only program that I can connect to the website is IE, yes Internet Explorer 6.0!

I tried reverting to Firefox 1.5.0.4, no luck =/

This also applies to the webhost, and all of the other sites they are hosting.

Does IE have some secret trick!?

(When I try to go to the website in Firefox, it just stays at connecting until the timed out page comes up. Opera does nothing at all.)

Upgrade to Special K, see you by the pool.

Thanks Enay... :/

This is interesting Regular K- My server also seems to be having problems since the latest Firefox update... I'll look more into it later.

I had a similar problem recently (might be the same as yours).

What happend was, Firefox and Opera refused to connect to eBay, but IE worked ok.

After scratching my head for 5 minutes it turned out that the p2p ports I'd opened in my router were causing the problems. Why it was still working on IE I do not know, or even why it caused problems with FF and Opera.

Also, I when going through one of my many Linux try-outs FF would only connect to a few websites but the built in Konqueror connected to them all.

To fix that issue in FF I typed about:config into the address bar, entered ipv6 in the filter box and toggled the "network.dns.disableIPv6" to true. Websites then worked.

If none of those work, try Enay's advice :)

Do you think it is the upgrade or could there be some form of FF malware involved???

Weird, I also updated Firefox to 1.5.0.5 a couple of days ago, but I don't have any problems with Firefox, Opera or MSIE.

Hmm. My problem is different. My server app itself stopped working properly after installing FF.

I'll bet you're using Windows XP. That'll be the problem.

I have the same problem with Firefox on Ubuntu Linux.
It's also 1.5.0.5. All websites work perfectly, accept 1 forum I have visited for years.

when I start the page, sometimes it works immediatly, but other times it just stays totally unreachable for hours. Also Ping's and Traceroute's yield no results at all, as if the server didnt exist. Asking ppl on IRC and friends to visit the site proved it's still very much up and running.

To rule out problems with my home network setup, I asked a roommate to visit the site (he connects through the same router) and it worked just fine for him.

I thought it was a problem with Ubuntu, but since I am not the only one, it's prolly Firefox

I'll bet you're using Windows XP. That'll be the problem.

UH OH! I guess that explains all my other problems =/

Yep, that and just being regular.

This is very odd, the website works fine on my other computer that uses the same ISP and a fresh install of Firefox.

I've tried flushing my dns (ipconfig /flushdns)

I don't want to resort to using IE =/
