Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) from http://www.lunarpages.com? I'm checking alternative hosting options and they seem to have everything I need.

It's fourth year I am using them. Never had any problems and it was only once that the site was not accessible but only for about five minutes. I'll definitely going to continue to use them as my host.

All the problems in the links Perturbatio posted were related to size/volume use of the page.

One said "If you have less than 100 hits a day and have nothing dynamic on your page, and dont use php then Lunar pages are great"

As you have used them for four years, could you just post ball park figures for your page? Thanks

I use them for my websites, never had a problem with them. That diagnose-me site sounds like a fuss about nothing.

I bet they end up working like GoDaddy do. Sounding great on the outside but have really slow varying in speed MySQL databases. Also, soon as you start to push any decent bandwidth through your site they suspend you with a "fair usage" policy.

If you want a host where you get what you pay for without hidden crap then try www.dataflame.com - they're not a cheap promise the world company, but you do get very good hosting, PHP and MySQL speeps.

If you are looking for asp.net hosting, I'd recommend:

These are both inexpensive but not extremely cheap, but you get what they say you get and you get excellent support.

I have had horrible luck with the really cheap asp.net providers. For example,

Problems with parcom sound really similar to the problems listed with lunarpages. They give large amounts of disk space, but if any content on that disk space isn't linked to a webpage, they delete it without warning (the moron who runs the company actually brags about deleting site content in the forums). Contacting support for issues, you almost always have to diagnose the problem for them unless it is really a basic issue. The forums used to be public but now are private, and if you post a complaint or a service issue, it immediately gets deleted. Like lunarpages, if you keep posting complaints you get banned from the forums. They claim that you get large bandwidth, but shut down your site and tell you to move to dedicated hosting if you try to use it. Oh, and I almost forgot -- the owner of Parcom frequently urges customers to post good reviews on those webhosting review sites, and rewards (free hosting for a month, etc) people for doing things like that.

I'm using BlueHost, actually they're less powerful, but pretty reasonable.

I don't need SQL/PHP (right now at least), and BlueHost does not have all the features I want so that dropped them. Asp.net? Don't even know wha that is, so I probably don't need that either :)

For me php+MySQL is pretty enough, and BlueHost is nice.

Go-daddy has it's problems. But I've been pulling more than 100 hits a day off the combined usage of all my crap, and I have a good bit of php + mysql... and they never shut down any of my mailers saying they were insecure.

the www.dampes8n.com site and www.dampes8n.com/timebridge/ sites aren't the bulk of my hits... I use the space to send things to people, and I'm working on 2 game teams, a game mod class and using the site for testing web sites I work on..... I've run some very crazy code there... they have never had a problem...

They have been good to me.... I'm not a high roller, tho... by any means...

I've heard other bad things about lunar, tho.... really bad things. Along the same lines as the links provided at the top.

I've also heard good things... If all you want is a static, simple, not very popular, site... you'll be fine.

Yes, for small things they are fine. A forum site I admin on has an average of:

86,439 hits per day
2,679,619 hits per month

3 months ago I bought a hosting package from Go-Daddy, mirrored the site for testing and it was consistantly dog slow for 3 weeks on MySQL performance. Needless to say I canceled the account. Normal HTML + images was ok though. I'd of hated for it's memberbase to be stuck with go-daddy.

If you want hosting for yourself and a handfull of visitors, cheap hosting is fine. If you even approach anything resembling a regular user base then pay that little extra, it's well worth it.

Like probably from any big host, afterall they do have hundred of thousands customers and you can never please them all. Usually whose who have gotten the wrong end of the stick (real or imagined) are way louder than the happy people. Same goes for everything really in life, Blitz and Darkbasic users included.
