Heya, due to my recent computer freezing problems, i've decided to get new parts. Now, i'm not looking for anything too fancy, and i came across this AMD Sempron 2800 754 64bit CPU:
http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=19517&opener=DFTIt seems a bit cheap... Anyone got any suggestions for a CPU. Price range £30 - £55.
Its only 1.6GHz. Is that enough?
Can probably get an Athlon64 3000+@2GHz for about £50-£60...
Hmm, yeah, that does seem a better option :o) I haven't looked at PC hardware in a while, so all the new socket types is confusing me :o) I was looking at a CPU, with an AM-2 socket type, but they all had PCI-E graphics card, and there are all a bit pricey. I'd like to stick to AGP for now, i know something about them cards :o)
Thanks guys, i'll have a look.
Ok, i have choosen a motherboard. But the FSB is only 800 Mhz, and the CPU needs a FSB of 1600. DOes the board have a multiplier to deal with this, or will i need to get a MOBO with a higher FSB?
if you're going to get a new motherboard as well, you might want to consider the socket 939 instead, it runs cooler and will be supported for a little while longer.
Ross, check the ASRock 939 Dual Sata2 at £40:

The above motherboard can take AGP *and* PCI-E graphics cards, and it's supposed to be very good with both.
