That's what Prey should have been playing with in a sense.

Currently awaiting this, looks like Ep2 will be worth its price a bit more then the first, continue Gordan Freemans FPS adventure, a puzzle FPS, and Team Fortress2...

Yeah, and it's enough to have Valve and Human Head at each other's throats claiming that one or the other have patented that technology, and well, quite frankly, Valve should be the one to pay up to Human Head for a license to use the Portal technology. Actually, wasn't it 3DR that actually owns that technology, and they contracted it to Human Head to use it, can't remember who really originally owned that portal tech.

RAM: Noone should pay anyone anything.
If someone claims a patent on portals used in games, and the courts even pay attention, there is something very wrong.

Don't trust me entirely on this, but I believe that VALVe has stated the new gun (portal gun) will also be used in Ep2.

Once again, I am very surprised :)
Even now, I can tell this is a much better game to bundle with the episode than *shudder* Half-Life Deathmath: Source.

Has anyone played the c64/amiga portal beside of me? :O)

Valve's Portal is being developed by the people who created Narbacular Drop, which was released a long time before Prey.

Watching the video more closely, sometimes objects "snap" through a portal, hope that gets fixed in the completed version as that ruins the immersion factor for me.
(loved how it's a completely smooth transition over in the Prey demo)

Bit sad that I'm looking forward to this more then HL2 Episode2 itself...

It has been around forever, but the version they showed is nothing like the original from way back when (not a bad thing, that demo clip is great)
