I don't know how much comes up but I miss BC... Happy to think there is a link out there somewhere on the infinet where a little piece of BC still lives!

Personally, I think blitzcoder was a real loss to Blitz as a whole.

I might of just been a lurker around here most of the time, but the place just didn't feel the same when it closed. That and codersworkshop just doesn't cut the mustard IMHO.

Pretty much just the frontpage changed...

Showcase, Code Archives, Undocumented are where they've always been.
Google search with site:www.blitzcoder.com accesses the old forums.
The only thing missing is the Articles which , for some odd reason, Idig decided to take down. These can be accessed through archive..

Copyright issues, I think. I think they were concerned that people had not given their permission for the articles to be published on a different site owned by different people, and that they would be risking copyright violation if they posted them.

I guess I'm not old school enough to know why BC was taken down. Could anyone enlighten me? I remember it and it was a great place to hang out. I would gladly run it if it was possible.

Try www.devcrunch.com - site's still fairly small but its starting to grow more rapidly and most importantly, its run by Blitz users - people who are in a position to make a Blitz site how its supposed to be.

I miss blitzcoder. It was the BEST site out there. :(((((

Man I miss the days of BlitzCoder, sure it had its onslaught of noobs, no where near to the extent of CodersWorkshop thank god, but that be the first forum I ever signed up to, learned how to properly use them as a whole, as well as even get around to coding, which on BRLs end earned them a new B3d recruit.


It was for me, considering I had pretty much the 2nd highest post-count on that place. :P

I always find myself feeling a bit depressed everytime an archive or a link to the actual BC.com site is shown (well, to a part of it other then the homepage), good times...good times.

What's to stop someone from kicking that site back into action? The domain is
still there and working, and it seems the scripts behind the site are still there
and partially or mostly running.

One of you die hards should get in contact with whomever had/has control of it
and ask if you can take it over and put it back into action.

Mmm, "Species" has a copy but Blitzcoder is in fact registered to Idigicon.

What about that site brought you back the most? The forum? Showcase? Color scheme? It could be done again from scratch, but I don't think a new one would ever catch on like blitzcoder did. The blitzplanet.com domain is available.

If I recall, Blitzcoder was going to be shut down along the same time as Blitz Basement, but Idigicon stepped in and helped Krylar maintain it and then funded it for several years. So it's thanks to them you had a blitzcoder.

But, personally though I don't see why people are living in the past still, or the future. What's wrong with this forum, this code archives, this set of tutorials? Why not just enjoy the NOW?

A community is what you make it, it's the people that count, people seem to have these really fond memories of blitzcoder being the god place of anything blitz. But I don't remember it being that overwhelmingly great. All I do know though is a lot of good people from the old days have gone onto other things and have been replaced by the a new generation with a lot of time wasters and trolls, if Blitzcoder was still around now, it would've gone downhill by now.

For me, since the first announcement of Blitzmax the community(ies) of Blitz Basic have began to slide, not because of your longing for the sacred Blitzcoder website.

There's nothing wrong with this forum at all Enay. It's just that lots of people aren't part of just one community.

I know this might be 1) Stupid, 2) Impossible 3) Illeagal, but why cannot we just cut and paste all the tutorials and code base and stuff, and post it all here.

I was considering starting a new site for Blitz tutorials and stuff. Went as far as setting it all up, then I realised probably no one was interested.

Are they?

It's just sitting there with the keys in the ignition.

There are some plans in motion for the (non-personal) content of the old sites. I think the best option would be to move them (code archives, tutorials etc) over to a new independent community forum and I am discussing that at the moment.

I still prefer the old BC.com site with URL!

Idigicon failed with CW and now they try it again under a new url.

Ok, to clarify...

Devcrunch is *not* affiliated with, or run by Idigicon. It's Independent and always will be.

Blitzcoder is dead, but Devcrunch has permission to transfer the code archives and tutorials. The forum will not be touched.

CodersWorkshop *as a forum* is dead, but will return in some other form, the option to transfer certain content to Devcrunch is there, but again.. not the forums.
