I require a suggestion on RPGs
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/I require a suggestion on RPGs
OK so I have joined the ranks of the downsized and NO WAY will I reup in the Army again... Did my deed. So I sit at home and have to apply for 3 jobs a week to get Uncle Sugars dollar for a while...
While I am waiting:
I need a good set of reccomends for a PRG. A PC RPG...
I have played Blizzards offspring to death.
I have destroyed Sacred in most every class.
I finished Rune (and it was good!)
I want NO MMORPG nonsense...
There are several others out there... gimmie help here...
There was one that was like the original Diablo but I can't find it anywhere (nor recall the name!)
hepl me!
Anything from Bioware gets my vote.
Regarding Diablo, it's more a hack&slash then an RPG if you ask me, but if you liked that, you'd love Diablo2...regarding where to find them, I think their last produced format was in the "Diablo Battlechest" package, which included Diablo1, Diablo2 w/ expansion pack, and stratedgy guides for both, and is cheap (saw it in stores for CDN$29.99 couple years back)...maybe look it up on Amazon or something for purchasing if you're interested.
[EDIT] And I cant believe I left out Fallout2.....I should be shot, thx for the reminder JustLuke, an awesome RPG with an uneclipsed sense of freedom.
Fallout 2
Baldur's Gate II
Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale
Arcanum (fantastic and highly underrated)
Knights of the Old Republic.
Wizardy 8 (again, fantastic but highly underrated)
Divine Divinity
Vampire: The Masquerade (The original)
Geneforge 1, 2 & 3.
Prince of Qin
Morrowind
That lot should keep you going for a while, I think.
I got finger-RSI from Diablo2+exp! ^_^ Anyone making such a hack 'n slash game with equal quality gfx (no 3d please, just 2d/semi-3d), equal quality sountrack and equal quality gameplay will get my vote!
Fallout 2 :Brill
Baldur's Gate II :Get BG I and expansion first and play all
Knights of the Old Republic :Just get whatever the newest in this series is
Morrowind :Its OK, but if you can run it get Oblivion instead
I think you where thinking about Hexen? Or posibly Dungeon siege?
I would clasify Diablo as "Hack 'n Slash" and not RPG, so the most like it is probably Dungeon siege (which is on explosiv's cheapo range),I think there is a sequal, which is probably called "Dungeon Siege II, the revenge of somthing"
Guildwars has been given good reviews. As you can play it for a few hours at a time, rather than days on end.
I don't really consider it an RPG ( but then I don't consider Diablo 2 an RPG either ) but you should probably check out Titan Quest. It's basically Diablo 2 with Romans, Titans, Gorgons and fancy-pants graphics. It's not my idea of a great RPG, but since you like Diablo and Sacred ( neither of which are my type of game either ) it's probably your idea of a great RPG.
Personally I'm hoping to find a shop selling Neverend.
Well.. as an offshoot of Diablo..
Pick up Dungeon Siege.. and DS2... both are pretty good when it comes to being diablo clones... and I would argue the DS2 is better than diablo.
If you want to brank out into other DnD based games, there is always the baldur's gate series, or temple of elemental evil, or nox.... tho nox is prolly the easiest of the bunch to get into and have fun with.
It is a tough call... as diablo like games are really light-action games with RPG elements... and there just aren't that many of them out there.
Shifting into actual RPGs is good, either like the ones I already said, or out into the other spectrum with Morrowind (grab the box set with the 2 expansions)... Which is an action RPG but doesn't have the same view perspective as diablo. On these same lines are Ultima 9, great game, all the Ultimas are great, but you prolly can't get the older ones.
Then there are MMOs... a lot of mmos are like diablo... Some more than others.
People don't like the charges... but for a good MMO they are worth it... take the "free trial" (which costs money to buy the game) and if you don't like... don't play any more.
Good MMOs that are like diablo and won't piss you off are, obviously, World of Warcraft.... but beyond that. I would check out the mother of all MMOs, Ultima Online. That game will eat your life more than any other MMO and it was one of the first, and the oldest one that is still in existance....
As a side note... Play in 2D, not 3D.... the 3D looks terrible. the 2D will be like a cross between diablo and diablo 2 in gaphics with really nice isometric tiles.... And even considering there is only humans to play as, there is for more customization that can be done in that game, than any other MMO ever. You don't have to look the same as anyone else... nor have the same skills and abilities and spells as anyone else in the same concert...
Never winter nights, since it wasnt really mentioned yet
I never really got into Baldurs gate...but its considered a great series by many.
"There was one that was like the original Diablo but I can't find it anywhere (nor recall the name!)

Theres a lot of games like the Original Diablo.
But maybe your thinking of "DarkStone"?
Titan quest is pretty much a diablo2 clone.
I wouldnt call Diablo style games RPG in the classical sense either, Neo Action Rpg I guess, with the key word being "Action"
or click and kill.
Sam
Yeah. Get Arcanum. Best RPG ever.
Knights of the Old Republic :Just get whatever the newest in this series is
No. Get the original instead. Sith Lords sucks. It's way too buggy - and it doesn't look like Obsidian have any intention of fixing it. To make matters worse, the latest patch even introduced more bugs.
All good suggestions... I played quite a few of them... does ANYONE remember a game about 1--2 years ago which had a DIABLO1 there... you were a youngster with a DOG or CAT and you went down in an endless dungeon where the maps could be reset etc... What was the name of that?
{{ EDIT::}} FATE! it was FATE... anyone played that?
OBTW... DIVINE is pretty good as well...
Yeah ive played Fate, was a nice little game.
the only problem being Wild tangent..heh ;)
It was like Diablo without multiplay...and a little fable thrown in.
It did quite well and still does from what I can tell, one of the most popular Indi games in a while.
Sam
Yeah, I bought Fate. Kinda fun, I enjoyed it a lot more than Diablo 2 anyway. The fishing minigame was a nice touch, and the pets of course. The graphics are really pretty without being overly cutesy and it runs well on a low spec machine. Best of all there is ( or was ) a pretty active modding community so there are lots of little extras you can get. Including a really nice hi-res texture pack to make the graphics even better.

Heh, don't say that. The jealous brigage will be out in force telling you it's no Indie because it doesn't fit their strict ten-rule official policy on defining the indefinable. At least that's what I got when I dared to call it an Indie game.
Diablo like ones i've enjoyed: Dark Stone, Hexplore and Nox.
As for RPGs Ultima IX is a marvel.
Get Exhult and play Ultima VI Part I and II. they are awesome. Oh and everything on JustLuke's list.
On a slightly different note, Tachyon's 2d RPG called Escharon: Book 1 looks absolutely wonderful. I can't wait to try this.
Maybe it will be one to add to the list when it is released? It certainly looks the business.
Get some old Snes and nes games, such as FFV and The sword of mana.
Wild Tangent is the grey line between being indie and being dependant or corporate...
They act like they are hot crap... but, when you get down to it... they are indie..... because no one wants to work with them... and all their games are halfassed.
They can't find anyone to be dependant on..
The lead(only?) programer of Fate joined the "Hellgate London" team , if im not mistaken.?
"Get some old Snes and nes games, such as FFV and The sword of mana"
If we are counting console style "Adventure Rpgs" like the FF series,
Anarchronox and Septeracore on the pc side did a decent job of ripping them off.

Might and Magic VI and VII
