City Building Textures?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/City Building Textures?

Anyone know where I can buy (around $50) a city texture pack for buildings? By "city" I mean NY-style skyscrapers and stores. I've been searching around for a good one, but so far all I've found that looked decent was for $300.

Thanks!

there some nice city textures here (and free too) : http://www.speedimagery.com/freetextures.html

I've seen those, but I need royalty-free textures that are mine once I buy them. No strings attached. And I won't need to give up any rights; like share screenshots to help them advertise OR give credit to them in game. Plus, they don't even have that much building textures.

In other words, I'd much rather buy my own.

Edit: I might just buy some buildings with textures from Turbo Squid. Like this: http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/247547

On the other hand, I'd much rather prefer loads of textures of skyscrapers AND city buildings to make my own city instead.

dont you get them without strings if you pay for them?

I've seen those, but I need royalty-free textures that are mine once I buy them. No strings attached.

No other texture company I know give you complete rights to their work, they're never really 'yours', you just purchase a licence to use them. Our main 'attached string' is that you make a donation if they're used in a commercial project. I won't repeat the donation expectation, as it's so ridiculously low.

And I won't need to give up any rights; like share screenshots to help them advertise OR give credit to them in game.

Where did we ask for rights to anything? We ask for a credit, as you would credit an artist who works for you. (you would credit your games contributors, wouldn't you?). As stated, we're flexible. If you really didn't want to share screenies, then no problem, you only have to ask.

Plus, they don't even have that much building textures.

There's 60+ building type textures in the pack. The turbosquid ones have... 29?

In other words, I'd much rather buy my own.

You're welcome to purchase the pack off me (/me shrugs O_o)

bye!

I demand a copy of these textures and i want Tom to pay me for using them.

>Where did we ask for rights to anything?

From your site: "You will allow Robert & Thomas Speed, to make references to, and/or use screenshots of,your project to aid in our advertising and in our C.Vs."

Also from your site: "You will credit Thomas & Robert Speed, or, www.speedimagery.com"

Once again, NOT worth it. Either way, your pack just isn't what I'm looking for.

>but I need royalty-free textures that are mine once I buy
>them. No strings attached.

So basically you just want to pass them off as your own creation... And for that you expect to pay at the most $50.

>And I won't need to give up any rights; like share
>screenshots to help them advertise OR give credit to them
>in game.

what rights are you giving up, by crediting the creator?

>Once again, NOT worth it

Why is it such an issue?

Andy

What is best then ?

1. Donating money and give no credit
2. Give credit and pay nothing

I'd go for version #2 any day of the week :o)

From your site: "You will allow Robert & Thomas Speed, to make references to, and/or use screenshots of,your project to aid in our advertising and in our C.Vs."

You taking the p*ss?????!

I'd be offended - nay INSULTED if you didn't want to use my work simply because you didn't want to give credit for it. You know, thats actually fairly disgusting - even for these parts.

As a little side-note - its a bit cheeky that your own website has a 'donate' button on it when there's next to nothing there. You expect people to give you money for nothing, but you won't pay for something you actually need.

I don't think we're in Kansas any more....

hahahahaaa... verrrry amusing thread this is turning out to be...

hey... why not get that ole digital camera out, take a trip to your nearest big berg, and click away to your hearts content... instant city textures...

Don't be silly. That would involve walking. </sarcasm>

hehehe... ooops, silly me...

(good one G)

No, you got me all wrong. In fact, I want to do the OPPOSITE of that. I DO NOT want to take someones work and call it mine. I just don't want to add advertisements to my game for "free" textures I already had to pay for.

And about my donation button; that's real old. I never asked or forced anyone to donate. It was just there. And everything on my site is free, and some is open-source; no strings attached.

So don't put words in my mouth. The project I'm doing right now is for charity, and I don't want to have to add someone else's site and advertisements to it. And that's beyond the point anyway. Once again that pack is just not what I need - SO DROP IT!

READ THE TITLE - All I want is royalty-free textures. Call that free texture pack what you want, but it's not even close to royalty-free. I don't know about you guys, but I don't like advertising for someone else after I just gave them money. Asking for no royalties is not a big deal. I don't know where you got the idea that I wanted to steal credit.

I DO NOT want to take someones work and call it mine. I just don't want to add advertisments to my game for "free" textures I already had to pay for.

hey... heeeyyyy!!! stop trying to confuse the issue with the facts ... besides, i didn't hear anyone call you a puki IK, at least i don't think i did...

**runs and hides from the wrath of the Puk god**

as for having to post the texture makers name in the credits... well, i dunno... did you read the fine print before swiping the plastic...

even if i did break down and buy some textures from someone, i'd probably still give the artists some play in my credits... but probably not on the title page or splash screens... and i'd probably think twice about buying em if i was forced to credit anyone... it should be enough that i can't say i created em, especially after i paid for the right to use em...

ahhhh, just another dumb opinion... i dunno...

^^there.

That's not stealing credit GfK...

I'm talking about the comment above that said I "want to pass them off as my own creation".

Stealing credit is when you take someone's work and call it your own. I NEVER SAID I WOULD DO THAT! All I want is royalty-free textures for a special game I'm working on. There was no reason for you to come in here and hijack this thread because I didn't want his texture pack.

If you dont give credit in the game, arent to claiming them as your own by omission?

I dont know, but isnt credit for media effectivly compulsory all the time?
I didnt think you could buy the rights to not give credit.
And isnt what you are asking is for the artist NEVER to sell/licence them to anyone else?
If so why are you moaning about price, I would expect a couple of grand for that
Edit: Reading back, you havent said the never sell to anyone else thing, sorry for implying that you had. That was just the impression I got from first reading

What Tom has done is just "Too-good" to be true, so arent you just unbeliveing that it is True?

hahahahaaa... verrrry amusing thread this is turning out to be...
Ha ha, and look who showed up ! LOL :D

The project I'm doing right now is for charity, and I don't want to have to add someone else's site and advertisements to it.
Why don't you just mail the speed-guys ? Most persons/firms have to trouble giving to charity (that not being your own liquer-fund or anything) and maybe they'll give you something for the game that you can use exclusively and avoid both paying or crediting anyone...

ya should'a read da fine print before ya licensed da stuff buddy... like i said above...

:)

..you guys so complicated...my friend Yoshida would like to say .'..when sheeps start jumping with no reason, its time for new mountain peak..' sooOoOoOooo

creating textures or any other content takes time - do
you really think its fair to demand ownership of someones
work for $50, i mean..would you put in all those hours for
this kind of money?

no offsense, but giving credit to someone for their work,
is only fair...and when a license is cheap and hardly limiting,
i dont think you have anything to moan about.

anyway goodluck with that...

creating textures or any other content takes time

Sure does - that's why "taking images with digi-cam" usually fails... and taking even raw shots for textures take some skill and favourable weather conditions. It's close to impossible to remove hard shadows, perspective distortion or "fish-eye" effect from the image, or at least not worth the hours it would take. Better take the shot right at first time... so this is the usual reason ppl want "ready made" textures instead of "raw snapshots". But they should be prepared to pay then... and even if they are that doesn't solve the problem of finding compatible packs that have what they are looking for.

taking images with digi-cam" usually fails...

ya know... i'm gonna agree with that... not only because 'Stang has demonstrated experience and what i see as a deep appreciation of the finer points of the creation of digital art... but also becuase i've tried it... and you have to be very carefull, and good in order to make it work...

and even the good shots usually need to be worked over in a paint program in order to be of any real use...

time that could be spent learning to make the textures that you want...

... which sorta leads to what i really was trying to say when i made the above quoted statement.

try making your own first... i know it can be a real pain... but there'll be none of the problems associated with using third party property...
