Mozilla or Microsoft

I just want to know what you guys think is better between the two. Perosnally I would rather use mozilla(and i am) than exploror any day. Thats just me

Opera here, I also use a portable version on my USB Drive, take only 3MB around.

Actually I don't care that much, I just want the page to be displayed correctly.

I use Firefox although I'm becoming increasingly impatient with it. For instance, I hate how it sometimes automatically assumes I want to search for something when I'm trying to type something into a reply box.

Might grab IE7 later.

Mozilla .. haven't tried FF yet.. basically I'm like "if it ain't broken, don't dare fix it", so I'm not installing all new stuff just for the sake of new stuff. :P

Thing I like the most is its tabs, I have my daily websites/fora in one window with tabs.. splendid!

Switch it off, then: Tools > Options > Advanced > Accessibility > Use Find As You Type

1.5.0.4 doesn't have that option, but I'm assuming you mean Tools > Options > Advanced > Begin Finding When You Begin Typing.

Turning that off doesn't help at all. One example is when I press the apostrophe key and the reply box isn't highlighted, it opens the 'Find' window.

As for me, I use Firefox here over IE, it's just faster overall in my experiance, and no having to worry about the browser being exploited/hi-jacked in the process of use.
(that and I like my hand-arranged toolbars & current theme)

I'm using Firefox.

It has the occasional screwup, such as video plugins crashing it (completely Apple's fault for not paying attention to Quicktime's failures in the browser :P) and having to end the old process manually via the task manager.
Plugin crash handling really needs work.

We have to remember, though, that this is Version 1.5.
For such early days, this browser is doing very well. (Although, I guess it is based off Mozilla, which isn't in early days, but still...).
Regarding Mozilla, that's what I use in Linux, since the computer I have with that is garbage and can barely handle FF. Mozilla is a lot faster!

It looks like FF2 shaping up pretty nicely, with some nice general features but a clear focus on fine tuning and bug fixes. (And configurable hotkeys, so I can get rid of all those stupid Find shortcuts).
A shame to lose the Places feature, but it really doesn't sound very difficult to do a simple implementation as an extension, so I bet someone will do it.
(It's just harder when it's actually built into the browser because they are expected to have all sorts of extra compatibility things).

Also not long until it's out... they're just about to go to Beta.


I wouldn't touch IE with a barge pole. I use it for offline compatibility testing and that is all.
Probably partly because of the EU, it has become an actual component of Windows seemingly directly connected to Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer is complete garbage, but I still don't want it being screwed up by something getting into a web browser.

I use Mozilla Firefox for three main reasons: the tab browsing, most viruses are writen for Internet Explorer, and It's faster.

Do you remember the times when Netscape had a market share over 85%?! Didn't last this long... :O)

I CAN'T use IE. It boggles my mind that Microsoft would program a web browser that lets a website install programs on my computer and disable my registry editor and task manager.

That being said, I HATE Firefox. The tabbed browsers are annoying, it asks me questions every time I close it, it stores my passwords in plain view for anyone to see, and when I open a streaming video file, it downloads the entire file first, instead of streaming it. I would gladly use IE, if it weren't for the ridiculous security issues. I guess that's what happens when you embed your internet browser into every little system of the OS.

I like IE7 best, seems faster and more responsive than Firefox. The only thing that annoys me with it is that I can't find a find feature. And sometimes I like searching a large page for some specific text.

I really like the printing features in IE7, which are brilliant, and it has a realy nice zoom feature for those that use a really high resolution of 1600x1200 or more.

Top right (the magnifying glass), drop down the box and click on "Find on this page..."

I use Opera on Windows and Safari on OSX. I avoid Internet Exploder as much as I can. The only thing I use it for is to see if my web pages are compatible with it (since MS never bothers following standards).

FireFox. IE is Rubbish. How Rubbish? IE7 has more than 1000 bugs fixed between beta 2 and beta 3, and those where mostly ones that IE6 users have been complaining about for the last 5 years.

I did like IE at one point until I got fed up with its security issues and popups. I used Opera for ages and ages but migrated over to FireFox.

When I first got the internet I was pretty dim on the whole virus, spyware lark as I never would of thought that browsing the internet could lead to malicious programs being downloaded without my say so and executed.

Mind you, is IE soley the problem? of course not, windows is so full of holes is stupid.

The scariest thing I ever saw was when I booted up a brand new out of the box laptop and plugged it into broadband only to have a virus hit the system within 10 seconds (no internet explorer or other browser was open). Luckily the laptop came pre-installed with the awful panda anti-virus and stopped it. This was Windows XP with (at the time) the latest Service Pack 1.

Without heading into rant mode, for the largest software company in the world to have security issues like that is crazy.

These days I don't trust IE and especially Windows in general for security. I'd never buy a MS security package EVER. I'll stick to 3rd party browsers, anti-virus, software and hardware firewalls.

I used to like making web pages for IE, but only because all the other browsers were worse (IE4) now I hate it because it's old and sucky.

That's one of the positive points to wlan in Linux being so much bother to set up.

I was using FF until recently, when I made the switch to Opera 9. Opera beats FF hands down imho (speed, start-up time etc).

IE7 does everything I need in a browser, albeit somewhat slowly. It's printing is superb compared to earlier versions too.

I *want* to use IE7, but the last two betas have broken Norton AntiSpam's UI. MS have never said they addressed the problem; Symantec say they're not going to fix their software because it breakes under a beta.

So, I stick with IE6. Fully patched on a heavily defended computer; it seems to run ok.

I would for most sites go for Mozilla based browsers like Firefox. But Firefox is somehow horrible with cookies, and on some sites that really sucks.

Opera takes an age to startup on my machine compared to FF....

I stopped using IE after I found a website which showed you how to find all the hidden files it stores away. Within minutes I found all my hidden passwords, web links and even e-mails I'd sent weeks ago, despite having deleted all the cache.

Never again am I gonna be resort to Internet Exploder which knowingly buttrapes your harddrive and PC and hides it from you on purpose.

Direct access. Or I suppose via a backdoor uploaded to your machine via one of the many security exploits Windows offers.

MSIE is really unsecure. You may share your entire drive, that's about the same. It seems almost like it's their philosophy.

Firefox is nice. Opera is really good, but I hate the way they change everything (mainly gui stuff ) with every other version.

They can get direct access to your PC by you just visiting a website. That's what ActiveX is for - putting nuclear bombs in websites.

This is just the tip of the iceberg though, if you don't want to have to find all your hidden files, don't use IE or Outlook Express (or basically ANY Microsoft product that tries to connect to the internet, block ALL these processes as soon as they try, after you install windows use a firewall block everything, it's the only safe(r) to stop Microsoft raping you)

Also any particular program that says "you must upgrade to Internet Explorer XX" in order to use that program, BURN THAT PROGRAM IN HELL!

Now if only B2d/3d didn't use IE for it's help docs. ;/

OK, excuse my ignorance on such security issues, but I have a few questions:

I'm behind a hardware and software firewall so I feel pretty safe from anyone getting direct access to my PC. False sense of security?

But, in order to install an ActiveX control, don't I have to openly choose to do so? Or, can one get installed just by me clicking a link, or something?

In order for any of my passwords to get stored on my PC, don't I have to check the 'remember my password' box that comes up? I never do this as it struck me as a very bad idea. A bit like writing your PIN number on the back of your debit card.

Pretty sure that's just for completing forms. You type in a username, and IE remembers the password that goes with it.

Otherwise, passwords and stuff can still get stored in cookies (which you can also disable, although little will work properly if you do). Your password for this very site is stored in a cookie on your PC right now. It isn't encrypted either. Which always seemed slightly dangerous, to me. But, what can you do, eh? :/

Ah, OK. Well, I'm not too concerned about my passwords to forums and the like being stored un-encrypted in cookies - my password for this website being the only exception to that, I think. I'm more concerned about passwords to my PayPal, online banking etc. being stored on my HD. I'm starting to get paranoid now. :/

Thanks to Firefox, well Mozilla actually, I'm making $$$$$. And thanks to MS my igLoader customers can make money from integrated adverts.

Based on the IE rendering engine, but vastly improved feature set and UI. Or if you don't like the IE part, there's also a version (Orca?) with its own rendering engine.

Using Firefox, but strange bugs sometimes makes me lean more and more towards Opera.

Firefox vs. Internet Explorer:
Firefox can't display many of the websites that IE can. I'm using webbrowser to see websites so IE in this case.
When i want to download something then in FF a new plain tab is opened, don't like it. When i had a modem then it took 1-2 minutes for IE to start. Though I use FF to access sites where I'm searching for cracks and can virus-up me.

IE here... I'm lazy and can't be arsed to try Mozilla/Opera. Same goes now for MediaPlayer, I used to use ZoomPlayer but now MP works just fine for my purposes.

Using IE is like providing a hiding place for terrorists. We have to lock Mustangs banking account :)

I use 'Huggies' - I switched from 'Pampers' when 'Huggies' released 'Adventurers' - Prior to that it was 'Pampers Pull-ups' for me. Now I am an 'Adventurer'. I could be be swayed to switch sides again.

I agree with puki here... Who really cares? If the browser does what you need, then use it.

I flip back and forth, as one has a really cool feature I like to use, I use that one, then vice-versa. At work I use IE, since thats what we're authorized. On linux, I use FF. Windows at home, I use both. It really depends on which browser is clicked first when I decide to surf :P

I can say good and bad things on both software packages. In the end, as long as I accomplished what I wanted, then the browser I used was good enough.

I use Firefox's IE-Tabs extension so I never have to think that I'm using IE, but I am often switching between the two.
For example, when using Microsoft's unnoticed - for obvious reasons - MSN video service. Chances are, you will be given a page telling you to install all of Microsoft's free software. Of course, this is a blatant and dangerous attempt to secure a foothold on everything. I'm not sure about other people, but that does nothing for me but prove that Microsoft has some really bad web developers, a complete lack of common sense, and a really bad online video service.
(Oh yes, and it proves that IE allows web sites to completely secretly scan a person's system for installed software).

IE would be a nice and acceptable thing ... if MS at least would try to follow w3c standards just a little ... but even IE7 is still that deadly broken on CSS / CSS2 stuff, its just useless.
