Bad Karma: web.exe

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Bad Karma: web.exe

I found an interesting little file in my Windows/System32 subdirectory... it was called web.exe

I ran avast over it and nothing happened.

Then I tried to delete it. It was only a small 7k file.

AVAST went off wildly!!! It was a TROJAN.DOWNLOADER.6541 widget.

I reccomend that all of you have your virus prtection set to MAX (and updated)... firewall OFF all internet access... backup anything you really need (just in case this goes wonky) and THEN run scan for that file hiding somewhere in the system... If you delete it you should make your AV go nuts...

I had noticed that when I accessed a page the thumbs and images would not load...

My wife went to STOPSIGN.COM for their "free" scan... I hate FREE stuff because it is NEVER free...

Stopsign installed software on my CPU but it did detect this thing. My only question is: Did Stopsign install it just to find it?

AND to remove it I would have had to pay them for their software. Instead I deleted it and told AVAST to delete it next time at startup if that was not successful...

I love AVAST. I paid for their software even though you can get it for free just because of how good it is.

Anyway wanted to let you know. I did find this program on a few other computers that have not been to stopsign.com so I hope everyone can check.

Just a FYI
