Is the future MRAM?

Interesting BBC article about MRAM. It stores data magnetically and is faster than Flash RAM:

This bit sounded good:

"Mram chips could one day be used in PCs to store an operating system, allowing computers to start up faster when switched on."

sounds like I'll be storing that piece of memory FAR away from any magnetic sources :D

Would think that the MRAM would have some form of magnetic shielding so it doesn't affect nearby PC hardware no?

That's the only reason I dislike magnets near my electronics....they aint magnet friendly...

yeah, but more like MMemory (not Random Access Memory, as you had to stream through the tape to find the location you wanted to load from)

So what happens if I place my large speakers by my PC like they are now?

My speakers are about 12 inches away from the CRT otherwise they warp it a bit.

Remember the Spectrum +2, it didn't have a tape counter so if you had a compilation tape (retail) and wanted to load say the second game you had to either load a game first, then reset and load the one you wanted OR use a separate tape deck with a tape counter on. Crazy and CRAP!

the level of magnetism used will be tiny. otherwise the cells would affect each other.

Sounds like the old bubble memory from the early eighties, but I don't remember any of the technicalities of Bubble memory - just that it retained it's state when the power was turned off.
