Settlers 2: Next Gen Demo anyone?

Hi!

There's a demo of the new settlers available. (230 MB)

Though it states it's German, they included the English texts and tutorial voice files as well (stupid Ubisoft)!
You just have to rename the "data\language\gb" folder to "de" and restart the game.

I really like the game. The only bad about the demo is that its timebomed and has no multiplayer... grrr...

System Requirements for the demo aren't high at all:

Windows XP / Windows XP64

CPU: 1,4 GHz Inter Pentium IV oder AMD (SSE) Athlon XP (3 GHz best)

RAM: 512 MB (1024 nice to have)

GFX: DirectX 9 card with 64 MB + 64 MB AGP specture size, Shader 2.0 (128 MB, Shader 3.0 best)

Soundcard: DirectX 9.0c compatible Soundcard

* Pixel-Shader Version 1.0 and 1.1 > NVidia GeForce 3, ATI Radeon 8500 and DirectX 8 supported.
* Pixel-Shader Version 2.0 > NVidia > GeForce FX 5xxx, > ATI >Radeon 9500/Pro and DirectX 9b supported.
* Pixel-Shader Version 3.0 > NVidia > GeForce 6, > ATI > Radeon X1000 and DirectX 9c supported.

Keep in mind that these are NOT the final requirements.
The devs are optimising the game further.

P.S.: Dual and Widescreens seem to be supported too!

Marketing buzz words of course.
It does look nice, but I bet the gameplay isn't a patch on the original The Settlers.

The original settlers II dates back to 1996.

So for the 10th aniversary of the game, Ubisoft releases this kind of remake of the classic. That's why it is called Next Gen.

In the limited edition there will be an xp optimised full version or the original settlers 2 (among other goddies).

I bet it doesn't have 2 player split screen like the original though :(

Thats what made settlers stand out for me. They killed the franchise after 2, getting rid of the geologists prospecting, and letting you see where all the resources were at the start ruined a big chunk of the gameplay for me too.
