Tree Magic and TM Pro suffer from the DEP Windows SP2 issue and no one seems to want to take responsibility for it, so I asked TGC if they would offer an upgrade to TM G3. They won't unless a lot more want to upgrade as its not worth them setting up a system to deal with it.

Answer from The Game Creators.

Hi Peter,

TGC have no upgrade pricing from TM/TMPro to TMG3, and we are not actively developing the TM and TM Pro products, as they are no longer sold through Aliencodec. Sorry we could not offer better news at this time. Setting up the system to offer an upgrade plan is time consuming for a small company, so if you can demonstrate their is a demand in the developer community for an upgrade path from earlier Aliencodec products to the ones we sell now, we might consider creating a system to assist you. TGC don't turn away good ideas :)

If any of you own TG or TG Pro and want to upgrade to TM G3 - please post here and I shall try to get TGC to offer us some overdue support for this isuue.

Thanks

IPete2.

i bought both TG and TG Pro in good faith, and would consider a fair upgrade to TM G3, cause as we all no TG and TG Pro are purchased products that are now absolutely useless asis.

good one - any more please?

Hey, Pete, you mean that if I buy what they are currently offering then they are absolutely useless?

No John. I think Gen 2 and Gen 3 are fine.

Tree Magic was the original release and a while later an upgrade came in the form of Tree Magic Pro. However in pretty quick sucession after I had upgraded, came Tree Magic Generation 2 - I was happy with Tree Magic Pro so I stayed with that version.

Then Windows SP2 rendered Tree Magic and Tree Magic Pro useless, because anything which was compiled in Blitz in the pre SP2 DEP Blitz compiler will not run on PCs with SP2 or better installed. It is the protected memory issue.

So although I paid for a product and upgraded it (paying the upgrade price) - the two pieces of software Tree Magic and Tree Magic Pro no longer function and are completely useless, because I run my PC with SP2 installed.

Since all this I think AlienCodec released Gen 3. The Game Creators purchased the product range at the end of last year (2005).

But the earlier ORIGINAL Tree Magic and Tree Magic Pro customers were never upgraded so that their product would continue to function on SP2 and above Windows. I want to know where is the once guaranteed support because it seems to have disappeared up its own orifice.

Thats why I contacted TGC to see if they can help. The top post in this thread explains their response.

To get an upgrade path established I need to find enough Tree Magic Users who want it.

IPete2.

IPete2, have you tried adding the Tree Magic executable to your DEP exception list?

This has made most older B2d and B3d executables work fine for me with SP2 (obviously won't fix execs with the nVidia and non x^2 textures problem).

I know it isn't really the point, but at least you'll have a useable product.

Yan,

Thanks for listening, yes I have tried the solution you suggest - it didnt work.

I have always had nVidia graphics cards - I wonder if the upgrade to my G6600 is theunderlying problem then?
