What kind of mouse mat do you use?

I use an A4 piece of carboard - slightly ribbed.

I get new ones every time a computer magazine comes in the post - they use the A4 carboard as an anti-bend thing.

I stopped using mouse mats ever since I started using optical mice - I find that some mouse mats (especially printed picture ones) affect the LED of the mouse and make the mouse pointer jump about.


What mouse mat do you use?

I use an A4 "Black n Red"

No mat here ever since I started using optical, I like having a wider platform to move my mouse across without having to keep picking it up and placing it back near the center of the mat.

I use an optical mouse with a 3M Precise mousing surface pad.

The pad is not a foam pad like most others, but more like a thin piece of rubber. The top surface is textured with a tiny diamond pattern. This allows it to grip a mouseball nicely, without collecting the fuzz like a foam pad will. I like to use it for my optical mouse to protect my desk, and also because my desk is highly reflective which can screw up the optical mouse reading.

Cordless laser mouse on a massive Steelpad 5L gaming pad. I tried using the desk but it doesn't give the same smoothness or precision as the pad. The mouse wasn't cheap so I was also a bit concerned about the long term effects that a hard laminex surface would have on the underside of the mouse. Cheapo pads suck. They're too small, too spongy, and dont last long before peeling. As with everything, you get what you pay for...

Haven't used one for a long time, unless I am stuck using a mouse with a ball in it..

I have a couple of cool ones at home, mostly for show tho' as I use a Trackball.

I use a plain blue Compusa one. Reminds me of my first plain blue one I had for my C=128. Also 99% of mouse mat designs are cheesy and get old quick.

Good old home grown wooden desk, that way you NEVER run out of mouse mat or suffer from slipping.

I use one with a built-in gel filled wrist rest, which I find very comfortable.

No mat.

I use this cheap $1 mat, its horrible.

I use a Much Music pad with a MS Lasermouse 6000.

I use a standard black rubber mousepad because my desk is a classy glass desk and optical mouses don't like those apparently. If I remove the mat, I can't even move the pointer :S

I used to have piece of cardboard but finally replaced it with this... at home I don't have anything currently and it sucks. I guess I'll have to buy another fUnc because they are awesome (sorry for americanism).

Oh..if I find myself using an optical mouse on a shiny surface I simply use a scrap of paper or an old book or something

Logitech MX510 on a GAMERZStuff pad. The pad is great (a black soft textile with a rubber back) the mouse could be better as it's not a real three buttons mouse until you define they keys in the driver manually.

Don't need one. I use a Microsoft optical trackball. Can't be doing with waving your arm across the desktop all day long, with a mouse.

I have a rubberbacked mouse mat with some nice red material on top. I hate plastic mouse mats and NO mouse mats, yuk!

I've got rid of my wireless optical mouse recently as it messed up every so often and it was making me loose lives in Bricks of Egypt. I switched to my old wired, ball mouse (MS one with mousewheel) and managed to complete the game as it was totally reliable!

I use a "Mastering Delphi 7" book.

I have a mouse called girlfriend in the 2006 edition... ;)

I use one I got from Kew Gardens. Loads of little black and white technical line drawings on it of the greenhouses etc. It's cool to look at and the texture seems to really suit my optical mouse - and intellimouse (not great - the mouse wheel takes real force to click)

It is interesting to see how many people don't use a mouse mat.

I use a cheap foam one which cost me a quid. I got 16 years out of my last mousemat, so its money well spent. :)

Incidentally - mouse mats are not just a matter of preference. My optical mouse is a lil jittery if I use it straight onto the desk so I kinda need a mouse mat of some description. I went to the local PC shop to get a new mat a couple of months ago, and the guy in the shop looked at me like I'd just dropped a turd in the corner of the shop. o.O

I think I ended up getting one from a stationery shop or something...

I read somewhere that mousemats are made of the same material as skin diving dry suits. The guy said he'd been down to a diving shop to get an offcut of the material - apparently the shop assistant's face was a picture when he said he wanted it for his mouse!
