Hilarious Jon Stewart segment ;)
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Hilarious Jon Stewart segment ;) Jon Stewart + Video games = My two favorite things in the world. That man is amazing.
Funny? Not so much. Scary? Oh yes.

The problem with adults passing judgement on something they don't understand is the most troublesome. As for saying that young children are more violent today than throughout history is just plain wrong. We're being passified every step of the way, every day, where ever we go, so games is really the last place we have to let out some steam.

In Japan every kid has to take up a martial art at school and they play loads of games and they don't have more nutters than anywhere else...
Someone should do a study that compares hours spent playing video games, compared to number of violent crimes commited by the same person. My guess is that those that spend above average time in front of the computer/console will have a significantly lower rate of violent crime. Geeks don't beat up people, car jack or rob stores....except in GTA, of course. :)
Specially those who spend 18 hours a day playing videogames... as they don't have the time to go shoot people.... Maybe to get more games, cause they also don't have a job... hmm.. But is that really the game's fault?
For a lot of people/kids, video games are the only source of interaction with "any" world where they can accomplish goals. In this day and age it's OK to chemically lobotomize kids (ritalin anyone) who actually have an imagination and the energy to go out and play real life but if a kid wants to play a video game ... call the feds, have hearings etc ...
BTW whatever happened to "The Looney Toons" I loved those old cartoons, nice and violent :) and verrrry entertaining.
Oh well, the appocalypse can't be far off now. Time to by a dog. Good eatin' them dogs :)
Humour is great, very entertaining let's call for some hearings to make sure no ones offended by humour ... just to be safe. Wouldn't want some poor kid eating the neighbors dog !!!

Ritalin does not "chemically lobotomize" it is a stimulant.
I was on it for years for Narcolepsy. It speeds you up.
The Church of Scientology have had a media blitz with these lies/half truths. The are anti all drugs, some get better coverage.
In Australia, The ABC's Media Watch program reported on some of this here.

And on Topic; Should not Guns be higher issue than games?

But guns don't kill people, gamers with antisocial behaviours kill people.. with guns.. but, no! don't draw any conclusions, a gun is only a tool, just like your average jigsaw.
A game is an instructional video. Strange, I feel a shooting coming on just after saying that...
It's a balancing drug. If you are 'underpower'ed it speeds you up. If you are hypo, it calms you down.

Toby, balancing could mean speeding parts of the brain to get them match other parts.

In recent years, as new tools and techniques for studying the brain have been developed, scientists have been able to test more theories about what causes ADHD.
Using one such technique, NIMH scientists demonstrated a link between a person's ability to pay continued attention and the level of activity in the brain. Adult subjects were asked to learn a list of words. As they did, scientists used a PET (positron emission tomography) scanner to observe the brain at work. The researchers measured the level of glucose used by the areas of the brain that inhibit impulses and control attention. Glucose is the brain's main source of energy, so measuring how much is used is a good indicator of the brain's activity level. The investigators found important differences between people who have ADHD and those who don't. In people with ADHD, the brain areas that control attention used less glucose, indicating that they were less active. It appears from this research that a lower level of activity in some parts of the brain may cause inattention.

Maybe Omega 3 is good for something after all.
New research has not been able to prove any of the other benefits that have been claimed it had, ie good for the heart.
