Looking for modeler I can pay later...

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Looking for modeler I can pay later...

I'm looking for an experienced character modeler/animator. All together, I will need 2 models (everyone will be separated by skins instead) and 1 out of those 2 models will need to be animated. There will be lots of movement and fighting animations required. Texturing is a plus!

This game will be commercial, but that doesn't mean I'll be taking your media and leaving it uncredited. You'll be treated and credited like a member of the team, so everything's fair :)

Now, only one problem. This was originally going to be a free game, up to recently when I started paying for a lot of tools and such. I need someone who wouldn't mind being paid after the game is published and sold. I'm pretty much poor as of now.

Before I came to this community, I used to mod games all the time so I know what it's like managing teams. Don't be afraid that I won't follow through with the game and all your time and effort will go to waste. I've already been working on the actual engine for a few months now.

This work should be very basic for someone who is mildly experienced with modeling and animating characters! Hope someone is interested, thanks!

I'd suggest you get some placeholders instead.
Then when you've finished your game, show it a publisher, and they'll probably assist you with getting new models, if they think the game is good enough.

I'm with Lars.

It is much easier finding help when you have something to show.

I wouldn't offer to pay later. It's a promise you don't know you can keep.

We have someone doing music and sound for Naked War. It's a commercial game but we have no budget. We told the guy (truthfully) that we can't afford to pay and he knows the score. Obviously if we make money we'll see him right but I'm not making any promises I can't keep.

Very unlikely scenario. In 20+ years of game development I've never known a publisher see beyond the visuals.

well.. I believe idigicon (sshhhhhhhhh) does this..
(not sure about miniclip, but I think they have some sort of similar deal)

Fair enough.

I'd rather set my PC on fire than sell a game to idigicon though. The amount they paid to Anthony Flack is a disgrace.

George is a mate and top bloke but I don't really consider what they do to be viable publishing from the developers point of view.

yeah, well.. notice the "sshhhhhhhhh".. hehe ;)

Idigicon that bad? Hmmmmmmmm tell me more ( pulls up a chair and opens a pack of digestives)...

Depends what you mean. As far as I know they aren't bastards or anything (far from it) but they buy games outright for a small amount of money. Great if you're a hobbyist and happy to make a few quid but not what I'd consider a viable publishing option if you have a game that might sell a lot of copies.

(quickly wraps up biscuits and puts them away for another time)

Can we have more details on the type of character/animations etc? You can email me (email address in profile) with sketches and ideas etc.

I can't use placeholders. I need the real model so I can work on setting up the bones and joints for its ragdoll physics. Before this I used a cube to test movement and collisions, but now I need the real thing.

To give more info, the models will be very simple. One man and one woman. Like I said, from there skinning will take over and make different people. This way, less animations and setting up ragdolls. The woman model will only need to be in a few poses (about 2) for the entire game. The man model is what needs all the animations.

The reason why I'm paying is so that I don't have to give away what the game is to everyone I'm describing it to. It's hard to give more info than then, except the male model will need lots of movement animations (running, jumping, etc.) and fighting animations (mostly fist-fighting).
