New Super Mario Bros.

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/New Super Mario Bros.

I saw it, I want it. i can't remember where the heck I got my Nintendogs from when I got them imported for *half* the price of the UK versions-

So, you lot from the United States:

a) Do you think i should get it,
b) Where on earth from? (I found a couple of sites but the price saving wasn't all that much...)

This is the one I found: http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-w/section-games/pid-1004193922/

just make your own ;-)

Done it over and over. You know thats what the Frameworks for ;)

Ah yes, I have that game, and it's too hard to let go of that one. Can't wait for the Wii so I can connect my DS to it, and possibly play New SMB on the big screen... Of course, Super Mario Galaxy may have something to it, as well...

The Wii isn't going to let you play DS games on the big screen.

Just out of curiosity what do you guys think of these 3D remakes of classic games. I have played the new Mario Bros and also Sonic Rush and still much prefer the original looks of both games. Is it just me? I still think Marios a great game but miss the pixel art look. And as for Sonic being called the best 2D Sonic to date, well I`m not so sure about that.

Jason.

You should definitely pick it up, just don't expect much replay value. Almost all of the mini games featured are the ones from Mario 64 DS, and I found the game way too easy in general. If you want to fly through to the end as soon as possible without finding all the coins or alternate routes, the game will be over in a day. Getting 100% can take up to a week or so, but after that, there isn't much of a reason to play it anymore unless you've got a buddy to play wireless with.

@QS: The new 3D graphics would have been bearable if they would have left the challenge intact. I still would have preferred an updated Super Mario World look, though.

I enjoy the new Mario game as well, but it does feel very short. It was also just a bit too easy which didn't help the length any either.

I like the 3d graphics and the new moves available. (Basically all the Mario 64 moves)

In general, I prefer the look of the older pixel art, but this new Mario bros and Mega Man Powered up on the PSP are both very nicely done. I'm just really happy to see some old-style 2d platformers again.

Just out of curiosity what do you guys think of these 3D remakes of classic games.

Worst thing to even happen to the "Lemmings" games, that's for sure... Some games just aren't well-suited to a 3D environment.

The old-style 2D point-and-click adventures (Monkey Island, etc.) also look much better in 2D than the later 3D version.
There's several problems with the 3D versions:
- They lack the interesting skewed cartoony look, with incorrect perspectives.
- The controls in the 3D versions are a lot more awkward than the 2D versions were
- Occasionally awkward of confusing point-of-view
- Thanks to polygon count limits and such, everything tends to look a lot more 'boxy'
- Certain visual effects simply don't work in 3D

All of those combined make the end result look more sterile, more artificial, less visually pleasing, and somehow less immersive.

just got a DS Lite and 3 Games:

1. Testris DS (can't ge tthe damn thing out of my wifes hands!

2. Brain Age (Came with it from Circuit City with web coupon. very fun. my brain age is 80 though! dang)

3. new super mario. absolutely love it. fun . difficult for me. will take me alot longer than a week to finish (i have a job and kids and just play 20 minutes or so at a time)

get it. you'll really like it. controls are top notch and smooth. what you would expect from nintendo.

What Eikon said.

I found the game fun as hell, but the difficulty really is on the easier side. Took me a few (enjoyable) hours of playing through to beat the main-game 100%.

I also would have preferred a new Super Mario World approach though, with more veritcal movement and length & what-not.
(not to mention the ability to kick turtle shells upwards...)
