Another Vista feature bites the dust.

Sigh. At this rate there's not going to be anything left. At all.

They have got about 6 months in which to come up with a reasonable solution that would result in the inclusion of that particular feature.

One reasonably good coder is all it should take. I suppose this is what they get trying to bolt other people's code into their project, rather than developing their own.

In all seriousness, what will we be actually gaining if we purchased Vista?

Over Win 98, in 2000/XP we gained a huge increase in stability. So what features only available to Vista are worth the purchase?

At this rate, Vista will only be worth getting a year down the line when all the cut out features are added back in. It does seem like MS are rushing this release out for a quick cash fix.

I wonder if they still have improved FTP.
Has anyone noticed how Explorer's built in FTP can take a minute deciding how to draw the progress bar for an upload, then uploads the file in a half a second?

they've gotta leave a few things for Vista SP1 don't they...

That's what I was thinking. I guess they need all their reasonably good programmers on the OS tho'. Not very comforting.

I guess there's still DirectX 10 (for now). Whether it's worth the purchase or not depends on personal preferences.

Nooooooo! Do not get SmartFTP! It's one of the most broken FTP clients I've ever had the misfortune to use. Try uploading lots of small files to a PC on your LAN, it just does not like it.

FlashFXP is well worth the money if you use FTP regularly.

Could you possibly make your own with Blitz using the wininet.dll?

The dll's functions are pretty easy to use!

Exactly. I don't understand why anyone would want to install an operating system which is going to smack your face at the slightest hint you are try to view any 'suspect' media.

I might be too old here but I'll be damned if I can give you a satisfactorily answer. However, I'm prepared to be cynical and say, "Oh .. but you can now run Notepad in 3D!! How did you manage without this feature hey?!?"

I have a 64MB VRAM notebook with 1,5ghz that does Beta 2 with Aero Basic without any problem ... so your sarcasm just reflects your missing knowledge.

What it gains you: less problems with B3D as DX7 does not run on natively broken drivers (greets to NVidia) anymore.

I still think VISTA sounds like a hygene product for young ladies... LONGHORN now that was a name for an OS. Texas rules!!!

What about your notebook's RAM usage? Interested to see how much RAM Vista sucks/conserves when set in a bare-bones like mode.
