Today I went to Circuit City and they had this Sony HDV Cam. Holy crap!! The picture quality was freaking amazing! I'm going to take my dad to see it... makes our $1400 DV camera look like a piece of shiat. Doing textures with a camera like that would make richly detailed.

Smooth Slow Recording
By increasing the record rate from 60 fields per second (fps) to 240 fps for 3 seconds allowing you to capture 3 seconds of fast motion and play the video back in 12 seconds. This is great for analyzing a golf swing or a viewing a bird in flight.
Now that I like, that's like .5 Gig per second recording, I wonder if you can capture live 240fps on any of it's outputs....
Yea, the storage method is a SATA HHD, so if your taking it into a computer, you can just pick it streight up from that. I don't know about live though.
I think it might be less than .5gig/s as they said they are using thier own inbuild lossless compression codec to try to get the trasfer rate down abit.

I purchased the Sony HDR-HC1 high definition camcorder late last year. The picture quality is simply stunning. The images are so crisp and the colours are the richest of any camcorder I've ever owned (and I've had a few). The auto focus can struggle on occasion in low light, but that's the only minor with an otherwise perfect camcorder.
boomboom, that red one camera looks too good to be true. I would desperately love to believe that's possible at that price but the cynic in me says no way...
well I have been following it for about 2 years. Its completely moduler, so no doubt they will be adding too it. Rather like BlitzMax really. I like how its completely moduler and all the componants are upgradeable, rather than just having to rebuy a camera every 2 years.
It's surely a nice camera, the feature of 3 seconds of true slowmotion is a pretty unique goodie in the consumer class. Also, HDV allows you to downscale the format to NTSC/PAL and save it as 4.4.4 color space, that will allow to do real greenscreening, unlike all MiniDV formatis with the crappy 4.2.0 respectively 4.1.1 color space model.
But to be honest, if you want to make textures then you surely don't need a highres video camera. Most video cams are weak when it comes to photography. Better buy a cheap Digicam with a high resultion and a good brand, like pentax , Minolta or any other photo-experienced company.
