I thought this must be an error, but then look at this lot:

Froogle is showing McAfee VirusScan 2006 V10 OEM 1 Year at prices between £4.10 - £9.99 from various sources.

McAfee's own UK store is quoting £39.99 and PC World are quoting £34.99.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

Am I missing something here?

Surely these products are worth in the region of £30.00?

Yeah but OEM is no box and also should only be sold with a PC.

and it is becoming a real pain... always popping up in the middle of work or a game...

tooo intrusive... it's like nagging adware

i'm replacing it with something else...

Yea, AVG http://free.grisoft.com is free, and don't nag you at all (unless it finds a virus)

I use Avast!

I used McAfee for a while, found it to be quite slow & annoying

Also using Avast free now - it's great!

A very happy user of NOD32 here.

Still usin' AVG here, just wish it had a spy-ware detector built-in, really, having to use two seperate products that in a way fight the same threat (can it even be called that?) is inconveniant.

i use (and like acg)
I found avast to be a horrid resource hog (and doesnt uninstall its services properly...)

The catch is that it's an OEM, and technically illegal to sell directly by itself without being bundled with a computer.

Avast... it is FREE and has frequent updates and works and plays well with MALWARE / SPYWARE programs!!!

you can buy OEM software here if you buy a Mobo, or CPU here. At least in Fry's electronics you can anyway.

OEM software can be packaged with any piece of hardware that's essential to make the software run. That includes CPU's, Mobo's, HDD's, Ram, etc...

In the past, I've seen some retailers bundle the OEM version of Windows XP with an IDE cable, or CD-ROM audio cable... Not sure if they're still allowed to do that, or if MS reworded their OEM licensing...

I can heartily reccomend F-Secure. Unlike norton, the firewall is actually easy to configure with individual rules. It's also good at being anti-spyware as well as anti-virus. So much so that I haven't had need to install SpyBot for a long while.
