Does requestfile still only get one file?

The docs seem to suggest it does. I found a thread six months old where someone requested it, and Perturbatio showed a way of altering the modules to make it work, but I really don't want to mess with several core modules to make this work.

Yes it is still single selection as other gadgets, that in "real world" allow multiple selection, as well ...
