I'm too excited to comment more - feel free to add your own comments.

I've never quite understood the allure of these texture and model packs. Why would you fill your game with media that thousands of others are possibly using? Doesn't exactly provide for an original experience. But not that it matters, most people that buy this stuff never use them in a finished product, or maybe I've missed something.

Well, I added them to my sig for all to see. Wait a minute - guests can't see my sig - here you go little buddies:

You know who the 'daddy' is when you finally buy a Blitz product and join the community.

Funnily enough no one minds when it sounds in games, or indeed video in television and movies. TV and movies are full of clips they've bought from other shows/movies, but it doesn't seem to bother the average viewer.

But not that it matters, most people that buy this stuff never use them in a finished product, or maybe I've missed something.

This is true. I think it's because of the subject matter. For some reason, almost all of these content packs seem to be designed for a medieval fantasy rpg, and since the vast majority of those never get finished, the media never gets used.

On second thoughts, perhaps it's not "for some reason". Perhaps these artists start off developing them for a game which never materializes so they bundle em up and see if they can get a few quid for em. That would explain why they're all in the genre which most often fails.

Personally I'd like to see a lot more such packs, but more varied, instead of just the same bloody inns and fantasy rpg weapon sets over and over. I'm not a great artist, but I can do enough to make something look different without entirely lousing up the quality of the original.

I'm never releasing my RPG - it is just an ongoing little hobby of mine. The media already weighs in at 2GB (compressed).

I like the look of these things and if I wanted to make a 3D game for fun, I'd buy one just to populate it with half decent graphics to get me going. If it ever looked like going commercial you could get them redone, but as probably noone else will ever go "gold" you could release the game and the graphics *would* be original lol.

Yeh, my problem is I can't do my own media - yet I have bought some hot-looking stuff.

More is on it's way - some of the people in my sig are producing more stuff right now.

what kind of media have you got there puki?

Im intrigued at this massive project...

I bought loads of stuff - plus some of it is stolen. I do my best to extract media from commercial games - sound, textures, music, meshes - all to feed my RPG.

I stole my animated characters from Neverwinter Nights - but Cubix Studio and Arteria-gaming are making characters. I am awating the flood-gates to open from RealmCrafter and also I note "svenart" is making characters too.

Heh, and I just added Oblivion to that list.

I just exported my first mesh (one of the statues), straight out of Oblivion - all those lovely buildings will soon be mine - I hope.

Oblivion falls - I just exported and loaded into Blitz3D 'brumahouseupper01'.

The whole lot is there for the taking - every scrap of geometry in Oblivion - even the building interiors are nicely grouped into floors (with no furniture or items - so you can add what you want).

This is most exciting - I'll have to have a lie-down.

Converting 'brumahouseupper01' to .3ds (ie the whole external building mesh) equated to 5,435 vertices and 7,100 faces. Not bad.

What format are the models from Oblivion in?

Gamebryo File Format, Version 20.0.0.5.

I just lessoned it. They are now being batch-converted by 'Deep Exploration' - I always knew that purchase would come in handy.

Am I dreaming - is this real - I am loading Oblivion geometry into Blitz3D?

You should email it all to me. :P

The building models I am looking at are encased in some kind of outer mesh which is called 'collision' - I assume in-game this is 'alpha'd' so it is invisble to the player.

I don't see much use for the 'collision' membrane thing for my use. Removing it dropped the vertices down to 5,075 and faces to 6,584 in the above example.

so, what do you use to extract models from oblivion?
