Don't ever give up on your games.

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Don't ever give up on your games.

I don't :)

Here's my story...

I negotiated some distribution deals to relaunch GEOM at a lower price point to pave the way for GEOM Deluxe (or Evolved or whatever). For some time I'd been thinking that I released the game too early, people, at that time, were match 3 mad and GEOM was too complex for them - was I right or what!

So.. I was just about to sign the deals when I get this phone call from a well know North American publisher who wants to know if I'm interested in a retail deal for GEOM. $ure I $ay - $$ ching $$ deal signed.

Now considering that 4 weeks ago I was ready to make GEOM a freebie I think that things have worked out quite nice. Not only have I got two major disti's ready to put some major effort into "stuff", I've got a retail publishing deal that guarantees revenue!

SO DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR GAMES - EVER!

Congrats.

If only we were all that lucky eh? :D

Congrats Indie... uuuuh, hey, can i float a loan for a few thou by the way... seeing as you're on your way to the big time :) j/k

a success story is always encouraging to hear... hope it gets better and better...

Give me some multimedia talent and I'll stop giving up ;-)

*all works normally good until I approach the point where I want some graphics to test effects etc and give up because no mather how much work I put in, I don't like it. this made me stop creating projects above libraries originally created for projects I buried then ;-)*

But good to hear that projects can work out like that :-)

Coor, that makes you a real grown up.

Well done.

Dreamora... what kinda talent specifically?

Agreed!

Yeah, good point. I'll see what type of innovation I can make out of my project (now that I moved the project from Blitz to VB 2005, don't ask me why I chose VB over Blitz, I'll try making versions for both languages, honest). Innovation, Inspiration, and Integrity (sounds like Miyamoto-san) seem to be what makes a game come to life. I've sort of self trained myself to bring basic 3D shapes into being, using them as "Duck Hunt" style targets, and still using them as a 2D game, to a point. My games use 3D graphics, so you wouldn't know the difference. Just a still background, 3D-looking shapes, and shooting them down to score points. Those are the basic VB games that I've been perfecting on since 2001 or so. I look forward to perfecting that, and 1-upping on that in Blitz. Great going there...

That's good...but whats GEOM?

That's sweet, man! Good job :]

Now considering that 4 weeks ago I was ready to make GEOM a freebie...

That's okay - you can still do that if you like... :oD

Seriously though, congrats. Onward and upward!

Wow... Indi, you are good at this!

Really, what's your secret?
I seriously think you should write a book on the topic (or tutorial... hopefully, but it unfortunately probably isn't that easy).

It seems that we're always telling you this, but Congratulations.

heh, missed this thread. Good on you!

No secret :) Just hard work and determination.

thanks for the story Indiepath.

Sounds awesome! Great news!

Great motivation! Thanks for sharing...

Let me expand this a little...

DON'T GIVE UP ON APPLICATIONS OR TOOLS EITHER!!

Why? Today was a fine day for igLoader deals - expect to read some interesting PR soon :)

It's true - every dog has his day - You're going up and up!

I really have to finish my game one day. Damn slackass.

Tim: you better donate some money to Pavlina if all this stuff (deals for $$$) is coming out of nowhere ;-)

@ RAM: I developed an app 6 or 7 years ago in BBasic (amiga style...) Converted to VB6 on the advice of a friend and got bogged down in VB... mighta been thru' a lack of determination to see something thru' to completion that I'd already done before on a dead duck of a computer.

Started developing my app in BB3D and got substantially further than I'd managed to with VB6. My app was displaying velocity against time for some real world hardware I'd cobbled together...

That asides, I finished my 'project' on the Amiga, Attempted to port it to the PC via VB6... gave up... BUT 3 years later my VB6 experience allowed me to develop 'GUI's' for my B3D app. & subsequently allowed me to pass info to my Blitz apps via .ini files.

My latest app is purely software based (adding in hardware development somewhat drains your time....) - who knows - I may be selling it by Christmas.

Well, I'm not gonna give up on trying to upconvert programs from VB 6 to VB 2005 at all... That's gonna be something. On top of that, the whole VS 2005 package with VB, VC++, C#, J#, and such with the 2005 .NET structure, that's gonna be worth learning more about...

I must confess to being tempted by the express release of VB 2005... howver in the near future I'll be coding in BMAx.

Well done!
