Epic Pinball? Elastomania?
So only platformer hey. Duke Nukem? Jazz Jackrabbit? Gish? I really have no idea, sorry.

well I read the other day that Mystic Inn sold 2000 (or 3000) copies in the first 2-3 days. nice.
huh..thats pretty good ..
at $20 a pop, i'd say that that's damn good!!!
hey, question... i've noticed this game being offered for dl and sale through various sites...
http://www.bigfishgames.com/mac/mysticinn/index.html
http://www.planetozkids.com/ozzoom/games/mystic-inn-game.htm
http://games.aol.com/game/mystic-inn/30963/detail
are these the portals that i've been hearing so much about... and if so, how much do these sites usually take 'off the top'?

Was id Software in this league? I mean, I know that they depend on Activision to publish their games, but I'd say that Doom 3 sold quite a ton. Carmack rocks, that's all I can say right now...
For a smaller indie game, I would go with No One Lives Forever 2 and/or FEAR, assuming that Monolith's a smaller indie game developer... 3DR's Prey's going to be up there, just wait another couple of months, and watch Prey fly off the shelves!

Red: BFG is a portal, and it's their game. AOL is a portal (big one). Planetozkids, not sure, could be a portal or an "affiliate". Portals normally only pay 25-40% of the sales, they take a lot. Indiepath has the lowest fees of any that I know, which is cool :-)
Would say Warcraft 2 or Diablo 1 ... back that date, Blizzard was not owned by a "I suck creativity out" publisher ...
Yeah, I guess it might be better to say "What is the best selling indie game made by a smallish team in the last few years" to exclude doom and all that lot that were originally indie.
In dounjin game market, Ragnarok Battle Offline is a great hit, and even get into commercial market..

Indie anna jones and the temple of spoon.
Doom 1 (back when id was still a mini company)

Grrrroohhhh! Man, that was a parody above all parodies right there... Hehe...
I'd take any Japanese indie game for my Nintendo GBA or DS any time... There are some cool indie developers over there that made far better games than any of the big guns over in Tokyo...
I wonder how successful Commander Keen was. I remember that there were a ton of sequels back in the day, so it must have been pretty profitable.
DOOM
It's gotta be the original Doom.
I would say Elite, although it might not have made the most money for the developers.
Who didn't own a copy who had a BBC back in those days.

I would think Doom
When you are looking at hugely sucessful indie projects it is sometimes hard to draw the line between what was an indie project and what was commercial. In the literal sense an indie project is independant of a publisher, but is that really what is implied by the term when you consider corporate development studios who are not tied to one particular publishing deal?
Doom was huge, but if you look back to the 8-bit era almost all games where indi-developed and some people made ... and spent on alchohol and cars ... an aweful lot of tens of millions.

Oh then maybe i should vote for Braben&Bell?!
isnt there stats online ? maybe from the bigger portals ?
So instead of speculation, one could see the facts ?

..well..yes becky..i was thinking about games created by 2-4 crew members...something like Adventures of Lomax, as I already mentioned...what is something what can be described as a 'good selling' regarding number of copys sold, for this kind of games, good games of this kind.....
