How to get a publisher or get my game promoted?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/How to get a publisher or get my game promoted?

HI,

in the past I have posted to the various download portals but that NEVER seems to generate any interest/downloads/sales.

I have been in various UK mags and that does generate some interest but I was wondering where else / how else to get a bigger audience for my games.

For example KeePeeUppy is now looking very polished and professional (is free - at least currently) and is timed for the world cup but how do I go about getting mass exposure?

Mnay thanks for you helpful suggestions -- let's keep this one on thread as everyone could potentially benefit!

Have you tried:

PR is also good. http://www.indiegamebusiness.com

boomboom,

YES! In fact Glimmer Games kindly submitted 3 of my finished applications - but not a single responce. This is not a reflection on the excellent service Glimmer Games offer more of a reflection of the type of product (i.e. screen savers) rather than anything else -- I don't think that its the quality / appeal of my stuff because when it has been in mags I have sold many copies...

The thing is IndiePath I am reluctant to spend loads without knowing that a return will come. Perhaps this is a bit naive but I am a just a hobbyist afterall.

That's the risk everyone has to take I'm afraid, it's just the way things work.

I owe you an email btw, I have some news for you.

Indie,

I'm waiting - dum de dum de dum...

that's a good question Sweets... my game plan is to focus on the niche sites that i know would be receptive to the type game i'm working on...

in your case, your games would seem to appeal to a broader audience, and therefore might be a lil harder to target the marketing and exposure sites that would return an effective response...

the first thing that comes to mind would be the casual gaming outlets that offer inexpensive online downloads and such... (you've probably already realized this)...

also, a couple thousand sales at $5.99 is a lot more than a few sales at $15.99... so i would look at what price point is receptive to the target audience as well (if it matches your cost/revenue plan)...

anyway, hopefully, soon i'll be in the same boat as you... with a finished game and looking to increase sales :)

good luck

Hmmm... I use Robosoft along with a few manual software submission postings and honestly it just all depends on the game and the platform. You never know what's going to catch really.

Go to E3 and talk to Warren Spector. Oh no wait...

Only if its a calculated risk. Throwing money around like confetti and hoping for the best is extremely bad practice.

I've got an idea. Nuke E3, therefore the number of quality developers/producers is reduced so we all stand a high chance. I just takes someone willing to do this who will go to prison (or the death sentence) for their ideals.
