ntvdm.exe missing

running winxp pro.
how can I get this file back without messing my system up

Um, I can't imagine your system will mess up any time soon since it's just the 16bit DOS emulator (note: it is NOT the same as cmd).

Just get it off a friend's PC.

Not to put too much of a point on it, but your system is already messed up. Like Noel says tho' its no big issue as the Virtual Dos Machine is next to useless.

Open a command prompt with Start>Run>Cmd

At the command prompt, type sfc /scannow

Make sure you have your Windows CD to hand so that it can replace any damaged files.

In case that doesn't work, and you're needing the current XP Pro SP 2 version, check your email. :)

yeah I did try sfc /scannow and it did replace some files( not ntvdm.exe) but I need to reinstall xp at some point soon anyway.

actually its a really important file. could n't run pshop cs properly without it, my graphic tablet doesn't work etc .

everything working now though
