It is an awesome improvement on sound quality, especially for distorted MP3's which may have been recorded too loudly.
Set it to 32 bit if possible for your soundcard - staggering improvement!

Having said that:
It wants you to disable the 'Nullsoft MPEG audio decoder'. It mentions various versions of it - the highest being 2.7
My Winamp has version 3.5 - so it makes me wonder how old/out of date this 'Mad plugin' is.
Yeh - I noticed the date too, had me wondering until I tested it.
My version 5.2 and it works great!
Bit fiddly having to delete the old dll and stuff but it's worth it.
Dont really notice a diff here on my 5.1 setup, only thing I think I can hear differently is better use of the bass..
(and yeah I did install it correctly, it's using the plugin)
I guess it's something to make highly-compressed files sound better? All mine are 128kb minimum.
[EDIT] Went back to 5.2's original DLL, the Mad thing doesn't work with the equalizer which bugged me, making my subwoofer pretty quiet without having to manually adjust it in my control panel.
I figured there'd be a difference in results across different setups. For me the difference is amazing - some mp3 files I'd downloaded here and there really made me cringe but this DLL just ironed them out - my jaw dropped!
The mad plugin is just a standard mp3 decoder with it's own EQ built in. There's not much a standard mp3 decoder can do to improve the sound quality - that is up to the encoder. So if you have your EQ set up decently in Winamp, you will get better results than the Mad plugin, as the Mad plugin is simply not as configurable (also depends some on your speaker set up).
