I own a 360 and I think that it is great. But sadly, it's only collecting dust because of the lack of worth while games. I recommend getting Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and the demo for Lost Planet. Both are fantastic and will make you feel justified for your purchase.

All in all, I agree with swift. Buy a Wii.

Invest in a hammer, then you can have 2 expensive door stops for the price of one, albeit slighter smaller.

Mines collecting dust, only bought it cos i had £2000 burning a hole in my pocket and needed a spending fix. Fightnight and morrowind are good but i don't get time to play.
I'll buy a wii and a ps3 when they come out though just for the sake of it and because my gf likes new tech stuff and gadgets :)

When i look at the games which will be released soon than it's a good decision. It will take much longer till there will be good games for the other consoles as they aren't even released yet.

I have the strange feeling that the wii community will become as the apple community already is, for it's good and it's bad! :O)

Personally i'll wait till all three are released and make my decision then. I like the wii controller but i'm just not a mario-fanboy...

Next console I will get is probably Wii, as the other one costs too much and have all the same games as previous generations.

I am still mulling over buying the 360 - problem is every console I have ever bought has been shelved after a month or two - I only used my PS2 for about 3 weeks.

I had the same problem but I've played the heck out of my 360.

I got a lot of use out of my old Xbox, a large part of it being due to the fantastic Xbox media centre though. As for games there are about 12 that I played till I completed them.

I'm back in PC game land now though. Xbox made up for the lack of a gaming PC, but generaly I prefer computer games over console. The good thing and bad thing about the Xbox is that all the best games eventualy make it to PC anyway.

Riddick, Splinter cell games, KOTOR, Fable etc. Jade Empire is coming to the PC soon, and is one of my all time favourites :)

For real? Jade Empire was the only 'must-hsve' game on the XBox (as far as I'm concerned). Almost made me buy one. If XBox live had been viable in DK, so that I could enjoy Crimson Skies and Mech Assault in Multiplayer, it would probably have pushed me over the edge.

Yeah, I'm holding out for the Wii myself, just better hope that Nintendo can provide an OFFICIAL release date, as opposed to a general one, want to be able to legally preorder the thing, and know that Nintendo'll acknowledge the preorder of the Wii (I don't know about you, but Nintendo probably doesn't believe in specific release dates or preordering, maybe it's just me). Either that, or maybe Nintendo wants it launched in Japan before ever revealing anything to the U.S. and/or Canada.

If you bought it as a cheap alternative to upgrading your PC, I think it'll be well worth it. I don't rate the 360 as a console, primarily because the only decent games it gets are almost all just as good on PC. But when you can get a 360 Premium with 2 or 3 of the best games for less than the price of a top of the range videocard, I can see why people would want one.

Despite being wholly unimpressed with the 360 as a pure games console, I'm considering it as an alternative to an expensive videocard for my PC.

If you call $10,000 cheap. Of course if you have a good game you can get MS to loan you the $10,000 and pay it back once the game goes on Xbox Live Arcade.

MS are releasing a c# 360 dev kit for $100 that indies can use to develop games for the system with. The next version of ogre will be getting a non LGPL licence that will allow you to port to the 360. So there should be some new options soon.

BTW I disliked crimson skies on the PC, but it was one of the first games I finished on the Xbox, and it was awesome :). Really loved it, nearly missed a corker there :)

Cool, so would my 360 would need to be modded in order to execute non MS executables, or does the Ogre / C# development kits have the ability to run without any Microsoft signing of the executables...

Not me. I can't wait until nintendo dries up and goes the way of the dodo. Only systems them have worthwhile is the handhelds.

LOL, Nintendo isn't going that way anytime soon. The handhelds are still great and I think the Wii wiill be even better ;)

It's true that people who aren't "Hardcore gamers" will probably buy a Wii since it's not hugely expensive, and most people looking for a 2nd console will not buy both a PS3 and an XBox 360 since it would cost a ridiculous amount of money (thus, once and for all, going against the argument that PCs are too expensive).

Their sudden increase in obsession is pretty obvious by how EVERY thread about game consoles has drifted off to - or tried to drift off to Nintendo in some way or another.

Even at launch prices, you could get a PS3 and an XBox360 for less than a top spec gaming PC. And they don't stay at launch prices very long.

Why would you pay around $800 for a piece of crap when you could get an perfectly good xbox? Theres probably another one coming just two years from now anyway that you'll have to buy as well. I might get a 360 in 07 though, when h3 comes out and the local loop unbundling takes place =) you've picked the worst time possible...

I have to admit that I like the wiiiiiiii.

It's not all about gfxs and hardware.
It is about having fun while gaming.

And these new controllers seem to bring a lot of fun.
Also the wiii should be not that expensive, so more people can effort it.

It will be worth it only if you buy an RGB SCART lead (the JoyTech one is best) - assuming you've only got a standard TV. If you've got a HDTV (or you want to play it on your computer monitor) then I can recommend the VGA lead. I've tried both VGA and component, and the VGA seems the better choice. Hardly any games support 1080i and in any case, the interlacing is annoying. Better to go for 1360x768 screen res (effectively 720p) if you have a widescreen monitor or 1280x1024 if you're on a flat panel display.

Having gone from a surround-sound setup to plain stereo, I can't say as it makes a blind bit of difference to gameplay. So don't spend out on a surround speaker system thinking it's going to add a great deal to your gaming experience.

Stock up on Microsoft Points. Some of the Xbox Live Arcade games are more fun than anything you can get for £39.99. Also, wireless pads might be nifty, but wired pads don't run out of battery halfway through a game ;)

Personally, I'm pretty impressed with the 360. Bought the standard version then added the HD and stuck with wired controllers.

Games wise, I am hooked on PGR and burnout revenge, but that's because I've never really liked PC car racing games (except the original Carmaggedon ;) )

Best feature (for me) is the media extender functionality. After building a media server, whole thing hooks up so well, streaming music/video happily across wireless.

For me it was worth the cash, but I can see how people just going for it as a next gen console would be dissapointed.

I've heard that oblivion is awsome, and Live Arcade is the bomb if you've got an internet connection for it. I intend to get one when the price drops a little and the tech becomes more stable (and there's more games of course). I think the 360 will be the future way to go for me. Sony and Nintendo have both gone insane.

Just like Microsoft's own Peter Moore had said at E3: "For the price of the upcoming PS3 ($600 USD), you could buy both an X360 AND a Wii, yet still have some $$$ left over to buy some cool games for both." After all, the PS3's configurations are completely different. The $500 version will be bare minimal, yet the $600 version will have all the good stuff... Well, $300 - $400 for the X360, and $200 - $250 for the Wii, you have two consoles for the price of one from the PS3.

And even better, you'll save even more money if - like the current console generation - Microsoft and Nintendo's consoles only have a fraction of the good games that Sony's console has so you won't be able to find any games worth buying.

Right, from my understanding, the only games that are even worthwhile on the PS3 are Tekken 6 and MGS4, maybe that flight game, the rest of the games are gonna be junk. Nintendo's library's probably going to have more games at launch than any of the others did or will. Also, Nintendo'll have better games at launch, too. Can't wait to grab my hands on that Super Smash Bros. Brawl, that's bound to be a sellout in the making right there. On top of that, there are also other titles that'll sell out bigtime, too... Something tells me that with the Wii, Nintendo'll become the #1 console company once again, and Nintendo had to fight to reclaim the status that they had during the mid-to-late 1980s. It'll probably reconvert me from a PC gamer to a console gamer all over again, and even others that are in the same boat. This is the year of game consoles again, E3 was great (been watching it on G4), and I'm looking forward to hearing more from Nintendo so I can reserve some stuff!

Wow, I wish I was able to pass judgement on games I hadn't seen for a console that barely exists and where most of the developers haven't even announced the games they're working on. That would save me so much trouble having to actually experience them for myself. Hang on, I'll get me notepad and make a note while I remember.

I'm still going to buy a PS3 (eventually). The only other console that has games that even turn my head a lil bit is the 360, and most of the ones that look interesting are on PS3 as well. And if not, then too bad for me. Add the backwards compatibility for my library of PS2 and PS1 games that still get played to this day (the kids were having a great time with Tony Hawk's 1 and Crash Bandicoot 1 yesterday), it's all a bit of a no-brainer. In a year or two, anyway.

All of those games beside Gran Turismo HD (and Forza's better anyway) will be on every system. Give it up Sony lovers, PS3 is going to tank! There are articles all over the place with reports of huge lines at Nintendo's booth and barely any action at the Sony booth where most of what was shown has been done a million times before and if you want that sort of thing you can spend $200 fewer dollars and get an Xbox 360 instead of a PS3. Sony hasn't got anything on the PS3 worth $500 or $600.

Yeah, even tho I do have an HDTV, LCD no less, I still feel that having a Nintendo around the house would be awesome to do again. I know that PS3 and X360 are built for HDTVs, but even tho the Wii isn't, it can still support some widescreen resolutions (the Wii was hooked up to a widescreen LCD at E3, if I'm not mistaken). It could support Dolby, DTS, or THX, too, if I'm not mistaken. I know that it still doesn't have the bells and whistles of a PS3 or X360, but hey, don't knock the Wii for anything, the library of games is gonna have Nintendo sell out bigtime, as well as the low price point of the Nintendo...

I've had my xbox360 (premium edition) for about two months and I have the following comments:

Without a high definition, big screen television, you'll miss out on this console's biggest drawcard - hi-res graphics. Without Xbox Live, you'll miss out on this console's second biggest drawcard - downloadable content and online competition. Lacking these two components, your experience, based on the currently available games, will be the same as for the old xbox. I know this because I fall into this category.

If you have a decent computer screen (and lack a highdef tv), then you can purchase the vga cable and experience the better graphics. However, if you're like me, your best computer screen is positioned in a less comfortable position than the family television, thereby negating the main reason for owning a gaming console in the first place.

The wireless controllers are good, though you will need to purchase either rechargeable batteries and an external charger, or the Microsoft charging kit.

Now to the games I've played on the xbox360 (single player modes only):

Need for Speed: Most Wanted - I like this 'racing sim'. It's fun though some aspects are frustrating (some 'Bounty' milestones, for example). The story (in career mode) is simple but mostly coherent. The voice acting is good: the main antagonist is perfect. Graphics? Good in HD, okay in SD. The trouble with racing games is you spend so much time speeding around, you have little time to appreciate the visuals' subtleties. Unfortunately my disc cracked near the centre before I could finish the game (it might just be me, but the NFS:MW disk seems flimsier than the other game discs I have). Is this game reason enough to purchase an Xbox360? No, you can buy this game on many other platforms (including PC?).

Dead or Alive 4 - A fighting game much like Dead or Alive 3, which I played extensively on the original xbox. The 'backgrounds' are slightly more interactive. The game features a few more characters, with a few more moves for each. I read in an online review that DOA4 requires more skill to use each character (ie you won't get through the game by 'button mashing'). Nonsense. Story? Slightly coherent, mostly gibberish. The SD graphics quality is pretty much the same as DOA3, based on my memory. I've yet to try HD - which says a lot about what better graphics really mean to me. Is this game reason enough to purchase an Xbox360? No, though it's an 'exclusive'. {sexist chauvinist mode: on} Maybe if they had used images of real women, rather than cartoon depictions... ;)

Perfect Dark Zero - First person shooter. I've seen decent reviews for this game, but I'm not impressed - possibly because I'm focused on the single player mode rather than the multiplayer modes that have been well received. 'Bland' is the word that comes to mind, including the graphics (in HD and SD). Some of the voice-acting is good, some not so good - the same can be said for the music and sound fx. The story lost me at Mission 0: most of the time I'm wondering what the hell is going on. The controls are awkward, which is what I find for most console games in this genre. Is this game reason enough to purchase an Xbox360? Absolutely not.

Well, that's my current opinion of the Xbox360 and the few games I own for it. The only other games I'm really interested in for this platform are "Saint's Row" and "Crackdown", expected later this year.

What I *would* like to see is some of the Live Arcade games packaged as a DVD for purchase by us non-Live users. There are, after all, a couple of million of us.

Incidentally, my xbox360 was a gift - I would not have purchased it myself, at this stage.

Hrm. ATM Perfect Dark Zero is the only reason I'd consider buying an XBox 360. But not at the prices they're currently asking.
