Come on Ninty!

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Come on Ninty!

I just watched a Nintendo presentation - gameplay on Wii for Twilight Princess. It features using the Nunchuk to hit baddies with your shield and swirling it around to do a spin attack. Zelda does seem to use some of these great features.

They also discuss the speaker in the Wii controller giving unique effects to sound, bouncing effects between the controller and the tv - bow and arrow strings pull back heard in your hands, twang heard towards tv, arrows flight between you and the tv and thwunk as it hits baddy (or whatever) heard from the tv. Fabtastic.

Also vibration feature is included, so you get to feel some of those thunks as you hack and slash.

Fishing - cast your rod and line and pull back and relax, listen for your reel... brilliant.

Yep, I thought the speaker was a great idea too, it'll complement the rumble really, really, nicely when in the hands of the right developer, just as long as the thing produces a loud enough volume to be able to hear over, say, a 5.1 speaker setup.

Will be getting me the Wii version of Zelda just for the sake of the fishing minigame, that and the fact its going to be a launch title for the system.

The problem for me, is the 6 month wait till the system actually gets released, then trying to get my paws on the thing before everyone else does.

Sorry I forgot to link to it...

You are looking for the video where the bloke says "Good morning everyone..." and goes on to say it is his and Nathan's pleasure to introduce the playable dungeon from the floor of Zelda...

Pull up Nintendo from the pull down list. Have a look around to see some gems, Shiggsy playing Wii tennis with Saturu Iwata , and two other guys - on stage infront of large audience.

Also see Super Smash Bros BRAWL as pointed out by Swifty - he was right watch for the end!

And have you seen Samus in her Zero Suit? - Well you can now..

Also check out Shiggsy conducting an orchestra with the Wii controller.

Shaweet!

I'd be hard pressed to justify buying a wii for the couple of games I've seen that I might like. But it does look like they are trying to get 3rd parties onboards, and the dev kit is half the cost of the PSP dev kit.

So I'm hoping there will be a lot more value and some more mature games for the system. By mature I don't mean horror zombie crap, but more sophisticated PC like games that use the controler well.

this console "wii"ll be hot and I'll be getting one (when the price drops and there are quite a few decent games).

I'd imagine the Wii will launch for $199 but $150 or less wouldn't come as a surprise.

Every Nintendo console has started out as $199, so I wouldn't expect much change.

looks shit. The graphics look pre-gamecube...

hmm egm or someone had a article before E3 where they listed many of the things shown including a price tag of $25o

Personaly I think that instead of getting a PS3, the best route is the one MS are touting lol. Get a Nintendo Wii and a 360 for the price of the PS3.

I actually hope the system costs around $200. Not that I want them to overcharge, but because I am afraid of Nintendo, once again, not giving the thing enough juice.
As you may know, the NDS requires a 10 MB RAM expansion to run the Opera web browser. This expansion is over 2 times more RAM than the system's previous 4 MB.
The lack of RAM is definietly noticeable to homebrew development, where the DS running Linux is capable of basic text based apps and the Nano-X window system -- anything more kills it.
What would 10 MB of RAM have cost to put in there in the first place? Maybe... $12?
Had they done that, the system would be much more powerful than it currently is, and the Opera web browser wouldn't be complicating things with its memory expansion cart.

I'd like to know if they plan to add anything to their online games service.

I was just watching the Microsoft presentation, wondering around the XBox Live portion "How the heck can 6 million people be willing to do this?"

I suppose I could be a bit misinformed here... is XBox online multiplayer doing some form of Peer<->Server<->Peer system, or is it Peer<->Peer like everything else?

With my current understanding, which is that it is Peer to peer with a bit of support by the central server (which stores player data and lists games / online players), I simply cannot see why people would be willing to pay money (yes, a tiny amount, I know... but still money) every month ON TOP OF their ISP bills to play online games via XBox.

I am glad than Nintendo is doing the right thing and not charging money for such a service in the way that Sony and Microsoft do... I just hope they carry it further than they have on the DS.

I hope that on the Wii, we get a proper server list, games do not restrict us based on that silly Friends list stuff (A good example is how "Metroid Prime: Hunters"'s multiplayer lets us play any mode with our own settings online IF we use the Create Game function through the friends/rivals end of things, but regular games found at random are forced to be Battle mode with default settings).
It would be less painful if they'd been smarter there, and it told you when a friend/rival challenges you to a game while connected to WFC via a different menu. Switching between Friends/Rivals menu (where I can create/join games by friends or rivals) and the regular WFC Join Game menu requires that I disconnect and reconnect to the service.

So Nintendo could potentially be offering a service which reminds XBox/PS users that the online services by said other companies are nothing to be proud of, if they put a bit more into making it more featureful and less moron-friendly.

um, XBlive costs peanuts, not sure what the problem with it is. Basic membership is free, and gold costs less than $6 a month.

If you tried it, you would probably never play a MP PC game again. I havent. Lives coming to PC soon though, and will let you play against 360 users in your PC amongst other things.

Ditto on XBL ... it's the ultimate online system right now and is completely worth the cash. I wouldn't complain if it were free but then again I'm not complaining right now.

The original NES was only like $79 or $99 for the deluxe system. After that SNES was $199, N64 was $249, and GC was $199. Sure they could sell it for $199 or $250 but I'd think if they want EVERYONE to get one that they'd better go low and make it a no brainer. $149 would probably be enough ... and I think there'll be plenty of people willing to get Xbox 360 and the Wii for the price of the PS3 ... which is just ridiculous.

Hmm.. On gamespot it said they all started at $199, but meh.
You're probably right. It is probably pretty cheap to make a wii, considering it hasn't upgraded too much from the gamecube.

I simply cannot see why people would be willing to pay money (yes, a tiny amount, I know... but still money) every month ON TOP OF their ISP bills to play online games via XBox.
Because it reduces the risk of playing against people who cheat, and people who quit before losing.

hmm I wonder what the UK price will be? If reasonable then Imight get one sooner rather than later...

Heheh, how old are you? That's what 14 year old geeks do to impress and be the envy of their mates. :)

Trauma Center: Second Opinion

'...Nearby a brochure promised that "The Nintendo Wii controller becomes a scalpel, antidote, bandage, and defibrillator paddle in the exciting sequel to the Nintendo DS hit." '

Now that could be really cool!

What DS hit is that from??? Sounds revolting.

It's from "Trauma Center : Under the Knife" for the DS, quite a niche audience game that did what it did well, just bloody hard to find in stores for that reason though.
(it being a niche game, aka, not selling too well)

Heh, 18 here, but it still beats the fact the system will likely sell like hot-cakes as the 360 was, making it very tough to find in stores on its launch date.

The graphics are better than enough on Wii, it will be better than GameCube but lower than Xbox360, but who cares about gfx when you are having loads of fun?
