Cookie monster

OK, in a moment of boredom I did an ad-aware scan. As ususal, the only thing it picked up where cookies - 70 'critical' ones.

Taking a brief look at the cookie names, some seem to be from 'legitimate' sites that I want to keep; some I've no idea where they're from; some appear to be a bit dodgy, but I'm not sure, TBH.

So, how do you guys decide which cookies to safely bin, and which ones to keep?

Just let it delete all of 'em - sifting through cookies and working out which you want to keep/ged rid of is a waste of your time.

You'll probably need to log into sites like bb.com again after, tho.

You should probrably delete anything related to "Hooters" etc....

delete them all, but I tell my browser to keep hold of the 2 that have my blitzmax index and password.....

You're aware that your password is stored in a cookie and is NOT encrypted, right?? Your password is visible to anybody else who uses your PC.

I use CCleaner as recommended by someone on this forum, you can specify which ones you want to keep.

Yeah, I tried CCleaner a ways back too but it didn't seem to want to work on my win98 PC.

I'll just zap the lot then... maybe I'll keep the 'hooters' ones, though. :P

I used to delete my cookies but found it annoying logging into all the sites again. so now I leave them.

Mmm, I overcome this problem by setting Firefox to ask me to Globally accept or deny cookies from sites I visit - it's a lot easier that way.

Oh yes, because logging into the blitz site with my name and password is my friends #1 concern.

Who gives a stuff about cookies? What's a cookie going to do to your PC? Nothing.

'nefarious' cookies just track you on certain sites to enable targeted advertising and suchlike. If you want to protect you and your PC, install F-Secure.

Cookies leave crumbs and crumbs mean little insect things (bugs) - best to be on your guard.
