Latest Tune

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Latest Tune

I've been hiding out working on my music portfolio for a bit and wanted to get some feedback on my latest effort. This one is designed for a fast-paced FPS-type environment. Mixing/mastering is rough and it's around 50% complete length-wise.

Gear used:
- Schecter Omen 6
- POD 2.0
- Mackie Tracktion
- Lots of freeware VST effects: Classic EQ, Classic Chorus, Classic Reverb, C3 UltraMaximizer (L3 Clone), a few others
- M-Audio Drum and Bass Rig
- Enough coffee to fill a swimming pool

Cool heavy-rythm :o)

Riff's good, very Nu Metal. When the beat first kicks in, it's not enough, I was expecting heavier. However, the later beat (inc. bass) is better. Maybe go straight to this?

Sounds cool. Very good good guitar sound, realistic. I could play that, rock on...

what do you mean "realistic"? that's a real guitar, courtesy of 16 year's worth of practice.

you're right about the first beat. i should go straight into the main riff there.

wedoe: we'll see. i need to finish it first.

thanks!

Is bad critic also welcome? :O)

For me the theme is too boring and montone in the beginning. In the middle and end it get's better but honestly this would be a sound i would turn the volume down as it would distract me too much from the game i'm playing.

As for shooter again halflife2 had some very good and hard weird synth sounds in there which pushed quite well.

Regards,

taumel

you bet, everything helps. it's still more of a song than a game song, so over time it will evolve and become more ambient and less distracting. i wanted to get the main riff(s) down first.

I like this song, I wouldn't mind it in a fast paced shooter LIKE Hl2 (but not HL2)

lol, gotcha there. I've also been playing classical, blues, rock and *METAL* since I was a young teenager (I'm 30 now). It's just that so many people use horrid synth guitars and even the best ones sound *lame* imho :-)

needs strings and a lead guitar riff.... It is good, if you can give me the notes to that riff, I could write you a solo www.dampes8n.com hit music and move to metal. I can't play, so they are in midi, but I think after you hear a few solos you will understand, I'm sure you could handle whatever I write... hehe.

You are also welcome to live record any of the tracks you see there with your guitar. Infact. I'll gladly beef up the metal in this piece and add serious intrest if you do a recording of this, sans vocals (unless you can do them justice)

midi sounds crap for guitars.

Both of these tracks have good solos, even in midi.

EDIT.

You can just e-mail me if you are interested, I'd like to take a whack at this just to practice anyway.

Not a bad tune, def needs to be fleshed out it's like a skeleton atm... like the guitar riff :)

The mastering needs alot of work (i assume you weren't doing serious mastering for this preview). It's *waaaay* to bassy - lots of people fall into that trap when they're listening with consumer level speakers, they tend to overcompensate for the lack of bass response...

For a quick fix, Turn the bass <450Hz down by 6db, a 5db boost at 1.3Khz, and a 2db boost at >7Khz.

I used to do alot of mastering mainly for dance music artists - i'd be happy to have a go at processing this when it's done :)

it's a quickie mix. the guitar was dropped down a whole step and the low E (or D in that case) was dropped another full step to C. it's really deep, so i need to pay close attention to that.

i use decent cans but they're new and taking some getting used to. no monitors still :(.

I'd love for you to take a stab at it. Do you have any of your work online?
