ATI Radeon 9800xt problem
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/ATI Radeon 9800xt problem
Hi, I'm currently having a problem with my graphics card after removing it and reinstalling it, it wont install the drivers. i've tried uninstalling all the ATI programs and uninstalling the device from device manager but it still will not work. when i try and install the display drivers it says access denied, and when i go into the device manager it has 'video controller' in the display section. can anyone advise how to sort this problem without having to do a full reinstallation of windows, i've already tried a system restore to a previous date and still didn't fix it.
Thanks.
Log in as administrator or set your current profile as administrator and then try installing the drivers again.
Could be caused by some old ATI driver files hanging around.
There's a free app called Driver Cleaner Professional and can be downloaded here

ok, i used the program suggested and tried again to install the driver but still not working, it keeps getting an error, and there is no sigh of a display adaptor installed on the system, dont know what is causing this, should i do i full restore or is there another option i can carry out?
Thanks
In your device manager, are you saying that there is no video driver of any sort listed at all? - no VGA one, no unsupported video display?
If thats the case you may need to manually add a standard VGA driver first which can easily be done via "add hardware" in your control panel. After that re-boot and try installing the ATI driver again.
Hi Kain,
Did you run Xp in safety mode when you uninstall
your display driver?
If no, do so and immediately install the driver, after uninstallation.
Hope this help
