My iPod is all screwed up. I connected it to the computer, and I click on "F:" in My Computer, and it says "please insert a media player into drive F." Well, I already had done that. Then I opened iPod Updater, and it gives me an "iPod service error." The iPod iteslf is working well, except that all the data on it was erased. iTunes doesn't regognize the iPod, either. Neither does Winamp. Nor MediaMonkey.
I have no clue what to do at this point. I've searched for howtos online, but all of them include either clicking on the drive letter, or using the iPod Updater.
Got any suggestions?
Check your warranty.
Does the iPod have one of those tiny, indented reset buttons?

Seriously, there is like a reset combination og keypresses. Thats always the best bet. Then do what Noel said.
Possibly a corrupted file allocation table?
I've had something similar with another USB device, and it was fixed by formatting the disk...

Woah, I currently have the exact same problem with my Shuffle, except when I click on the iPod drive thing my computer crashes, I've tried it on multiple computers and they crash too. I also tried that help page but no luck. My warranty is up too.
Well, none of those worked. I actually did get the computer to realize that there was something in drive F:, but it says it's not able to format it.
And my warranty's up. :(
Mmm, I was considering an Ipod. I will now definetley get the Zen Vision M - plus the Zen has superior performance in video than the Ipod.
That would probably be a good idea. I still haven't got it to work.
I have a love-hate relationship with my iPod. On one hand it's great, easy to use, well built and a nice-looking piece of kit. On the other hand it's very buggy and prone to crashing and so is the software on the PC. I think I might get an iRiver next time.
