PLEASE FIND EDDIE (VISUAL BLITZ)!!!

Hi,

I am a registered user of Visual Blitz and now it has STOPPED WORKING!

I am desparate to contact Eddie (the author) can anyone please help?

The error i get is cannot read compiler output stream.

And if I try and do a keywords update it crashes!

PLEASE EDDIE CONTACT ME!

I get this problem. I quit, and re-enter Visual Blitz. It's a wierd one. Copying Visual Blitz to another folder also got it working. Wierd eh?

I'll give that a go -- just been trying IndieEd and its great stuff...

Do you have a link to INdieEd?

I gave up on VisualBlitz a long time ago. Development of it just stopped. Its one of the reasons (the other being Protean) why I'm reluctant to support 'community' products any more.

Boiled, Couldn't you just start your own, with features similer to VBlitz? I know thats probably alot of work.

I emailed him about a month ago to request a download link (as i had lost my original install) and was sent a link. So he ust be still alive. I used his email address on his VBlitz website

Well I have sent him at least 4 mails - no responce.

AFAIK its no longer supported or developed. It would be nice if he at least responded to me!

If he is not happy to continue to develop it - I would like to (obviously without charging etc)...

I still use it for B3D, just love the IDE, too bad he stopped supporting/improving it!

When a company/program collapses like that, i wish they would gpl their code before fading into nothingness!

Boiled, why don't you start an opensource IDE community project? I am sure people will join in.

Well there is a community MAXide. And there is Blide. And there is IndieEd *ALL* FOR MAX.

I do not have to time to start a B3D ed from scratch and thought that as Eddie seems to have ditched Visual Blitz I could either get the source code for my own needs (I WOULD NOT ISSUE UPDATES OR CALL IT MY OWN) or would be happy take over the developement of it for the community.

If Eddie was happy to release it to me then I would be more than happy to either pay him royalties on future sales if he wanted it to still be a commercial produect.

I just want to be able to fix the problems I have with it and add some features.

Its very frustrating. It's a great tool and would be a MAJOR shame if it just went down the toilet.

I don't care what language its written in (probably Pure Basic). I have been programming for over 13 years in C, COBOL, C++, C#, VB so another basic language ain't gonna be too hard to put up....

COME ON EDDIE EITHER MAINTAIN VISUAL BLITZ OR PLEASE GIVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO WILL...

I think I remember people and eddie saying that it was programmed in purebasic. It's a fine IDE and works nicely for me but it's a shame that dev has stopped on it.

Maybe we can pester Eddie for the purebasic source so we can develope it further.

Exactly my point - I think it was pure basic and using the Scintilla edit component.

Visual Blitz is really nice, major pain is the search function, I'm so used to hitting CTRL+f, typing and hitting Return.... which gets you a newline in VB :)

But yup, other than that, a fine program.

Yes, I think you should drop it now. Its not that the email is inactive, as I have used to recently. If he doens't want to be contacted, then he won't be contacted. No matter how many people you get who have email adresses for him.

You can't nag him into sumbition :p

Same here, its very stable, works great, feature-rich (love the project mode) and no bugs.

Also a good reason NEVER to invest in user created tools (IE TreeMagic, FUI, etc). For some reason they just die, and the author takes his profits and runs never to be found again.

I still use protean, and wish it were still in development. But I will not invest in any more user created tools anymore due to the very noticable pattern.

I've bought Visual Blitz, and I'm happy since I got exactly what I paid for. The current version works perfectly for me.

Eddie never promised 10 years of free updates... :-)

I want to at least be able to contact Eddie. Yes it only cost $15 but it is broken for me and a few others. Yeah yours works great - how does that help me!?!?

It would be nice if he would at least reply to my emails. OK maybe it's asking too much for the source (for the community) but I'm sure a small fix to keep his existing customers happy would pay dividends in the future as many people could easily be put off buying another Eddie app knowing that support will dry up...

I personally think asking for the source was a bit rich (doesn't hurt to ask though, I suppose), and I have been very happy with my Visual Blitz so far - it's been great value for money.

But yes, the fact Eddie not only stopped development on it (which is his perogative, I suppose) but now acts like anyone who ever supported him has just ceased to exist means that as much as I love Visual Blitz as a product, Eddie The Developer will see no more of my money, ever.

Which is, quite frankly, disappointing.

I find this thread slightly worrying as my virus checker has just reported that the Visual Blitz IDE contains a key logger virus: Win32: Keylog-AM[Trj] I've had false alarms from my virus checker in the past, and given the type of application - I just thought it was a mistake. However, after reading this thread I'd like to know if anyone else's virus checker reports a problem with the IDE.exe file?

I use NOD32 and it doesn't report a problem...

I use AVG and it doesn't have a problem with VBlitz either.

I agree, let it be a lesson to all others to not make a program and then do a runner with 15 dollars.

Removing everything from my decls dir and copying back just the few I use seems to fix the crash problem !

But still I say! EDDIE????????????
