Your email address is (not) safe with us.

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Your email address is (not) safe with us.

on http://www.blitzbasic.com/Account/email_info.php we can read:

Your email address is safe with us. Any email address that is entered anywhere on the website (either in your profile, in a forum post or anywhere else) will automatically be censored and only shown in full form to anyone that is logged into the site. That means your email address is safe from the dreaded spam bots.

i see...
then, please explain this: http://www.google.com/search?q=ojay%40eqil.de

?

(note: i censored the email by myself already so you might use the [a http://66.249.93.104/search?q=cache:j3QzUedIpmEJ:www.blitzbasic.com/logs/userlog.php%3Flog%3D591%26user%3D9054+ojay%40eqil.de&hl=de&gl=de&ct=clnk&cd=1]cached version[/a] on google to see the problem)

and if I can find my email, spambots can do as well! and they do! since the last three months i received about 3000 spammails through that email...before i made that worklog entry NOT EVEN ONE!

thanks blitz research!

so i recommend to anyone to mask all emails you post on the blitz-websites out by yourself! dont trust the above statement

really annoying...

cheers

perhaps its an oversight and they forgot to mask worklogs?

I just tried a few random Blitzer's email addresses - but all seemed well - I don't think this is a 'wide-open' problem.

Yeah, this is well known and is why I don't have an email addy listed anymore as its open to anybody.

worklogs aren't censored for naughty words either - I'd guess it's the same code does both, and it isn't, but should be, applied to worklogs too.

Well, the swear filter has been turned of in the forums, anyway. I just tried googling my email and I didn't get any hits from blitzbasic.com. So, yeah, maybe the worklogs aren't protected, or summat?!

If you ask me, it was because you had brackets around the address, which seemed to have thrown off the censor, for example :

Fake@...
(Fake@...)

It's censored when the email appears as a mailto link iirc....hopefully someone over at BRL will fix this soon enough.

[EDIT] Seems like the censor thing only has a limited list of allowed characters, mainly involving numbers, letters, @, & ".", toss anything else into the equation and no censor, doesn't even have to encapsulate the address, F&akeEmail@.com doesn't work.
(although I am aware those sort of characters are not allowed in email addresses)

I got similarly stung with my e-mail address in some sourcecode in the code archive. Oh well, live and learn.
