Be thankful

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Be thankful

I've just been finishing off my uninstaller for igLoader apps, I switched from Debug to Release and ran the uninstaller - OUCH - I forgot to use the non-destructive switch and zip.... my entire C drive was erased.

This happened about 30 minutes ago!

Thankfully I recently changed by backup policy to incremenatals to disk every 1 hour and tape every 2 hours.

All I lost was 6 emails and restored the whole system in less than 15 minutes, including a verify!

Be thankful for decent backup policies, I am :)

ouch! Good job you have a professional approach to backups too.

lol Indiepath, remind me not to install IGLoader and want to uninstall it :-P

i heard the big sigh of relief all the way up here when you checked and the backups were there :)

Glad you had a good backup routine in a place and didn't lose anything, hopefully others will take note.

I store all my code on a CD once every two years... once every hour would probably be better yes.

<~ glad he didn't have a public testing w/ the uninstaller.

@Dark Half,

It was not igLoader that had the issue it was the Game UnInstaller.

Anyway all fixed now :)

igLoader now creates Desktop icons for games and Program-Menu trees. OMG I reinvented the installer :)

I'm almost religious backup-wise, everything goes to multiple HD's and PC's several times a day...

Wait - how did get an uninstaller that deleted your entire C drive? Did it not take a while?

Aurora, please take note of the above :P

I'm safe from this- My drives fail on a regular basis anyway. I don't need a broken installer to do it! :-)

@Skitchy, I wrote the uninstaller :) It's fixed now and absolutely can not delete the wrong files now.

If it zipped you disk just like that it probably didn't
overwrite anything so a simple restore-tool would have
done the job too, right ? If you didn't have the good
backup-routines I mean...
