Anyonw got Win98 with a 3D card?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Anyonw got Win98 with a 3D card?
I know Big10p has but he ain't around right now.
If you've got Win98 and experienced sound problems running BlitzMax games can you possibly try this please:

Hopefully you *won't* get sound/music stuttering or crackling problems or whatever. If you do, please turn off the music with M and listen to just the sound effects. You could try exiting and reloading (the music will remain off) and see if that changes it.
***Please post results in this thread:

Sorry if I seem to be posting a lot of threads about my Game Framework, I'm not trying to big it up or anything, what I'm really 100% interesting in is testing and resolving a few BlitxMax issues which Skidracer has been on the case with, so any help is really apprecited thanks.
I support this effort: win98 is now the last remaining problem for sounds as far as we know...
Grey: I am around. :) I got your email this morning, tested and posted in your other thread. I think you missed my post. You're not going to like the results, though. :/
Yes I got one with a 3D card but currently no sound card.
Give it up and Use OpenAL or FMOD
Fmod now has even more problems concerning intel macs.
FMOD and OpenAL are not solutions... unless you can get OpenAL working on my pc :(
I am sure the win98 sound bugs will be fixed - give him a chance and a bit of faith.
big10p, could you kindly reply to the bug posting in bug forum for the sound bug, as skid is kind of monitoring it, thanks.
Japanese Win98SE, GeForceFX 5200, OnBoard AC97
Work same as in Win2000, sound OK, graphics OK, that's all.
Big10p: OK, cool thanks I must have missed it. Shame it isn't sorted yet, but it did solve some PC problems!

arg!
yoxola: I missed your post, so you are saying the demo is totally fine on yours yeah? well that's cool. So it's not every win98 PC that's affected then?
It's worth mentioning that the music is an 8-bit sound tracker mod and the samples aren't great so it won't sound crystal clear or anything but it should be pretty normal though.
Grey, You post topic asked for people with win98 and 3D, not Audio.
Yeah that was pretty dumb wasn't it. I said 3D otherwise the game won't even run, audio was a bit of an assumption you flippin' pedant! :-D
It's a clean Win98SE with proper driver installed, and it did work.
Actually this PC is made as dual-boot win 98SE and 2K, in many case I test compatibility on both system to ensure the result is OK, and your example works very well.
Lol,
To be honest I only build the machine to overcome the (dare he say it) original graphics glitches BMAX had on 98. When I released cBubble BMAX did not function very well at all on 98, I did not think to test the sound! Doh!!!

Done.
Do you have any problems with sound on any other programs at all?
Tried this on my WinME machine, Grey, and the sound is awful - music and sfx both stutter horribly, like every BlitzMax (and ONLY BlitzMax) app. Also, it wouldn't go fullscreen, which is NOT typical for BlitzMax application behaviour - it can normally do fullscreen fine. I haved a GeForceTi4200 in the WinME box, by the way, and the soundcard is an SBLive!.
Ok so thats 2 people: big10p and Sledge - please post in the bug forum (there is an active sound bug thread there that skid is monitoring).
yoxola : Great info thanks a lot!
Sledge: oh dear. btw, I know why it won't go full screen as Big10p already had that issue (driver not returning hertz with available graphics modes). I'll fix that. However, I Have tried it on a Geforce Ti4200 and it did go full screen, this was in XP though.
Actually the fact that it doesn't work in Me is news to me, also this is STILL supported by MS isn't it, so that might shut the 98 dissenters up for a bit.
driver not returning hertz with available graphics modes
Sounds right - I think I remember some program or other letting me select which screen mode I wanted and it had the hertz ratings as zero for each (maybe it was the Darwinia demo).

WinME is Win98 with bells on. I think support stopped when the metafile security issue arose... AFAIK Microsoft patched XP but not ME/98.
Anyway, besides the point. Blitz supports it...

Yup, too many machines to ignore... which is why this sound nonsense needs sorting. Oxygene has example sound server code on his site and, y'know, D.U.M.B. audio is still as free as it was the last time I mentioned it. Why not develop Max's sound module around those?
I'll try it when I get home, have old machine with Win98, Sound Card and 3d Card.
OK I've made a new version and a new thread, please consider this thread closed. Can a mod lock this thread please?
