Can someone make me a logo?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Can someone make me a logo?
Hi!
As I can't use this little dragon in my sig for copyright reasons, I'm looking for a new logo for my comming games and applications.
I already made a rough concept of what I think the logo should look like to get you at least some idea:

As you can see, art isn't my world. :)
Perhaps one of you talented artists could give me a hand with this? If so feel free to drop me a line here or e-mail me directly.
Thanks, Grisu
I'll give it a shot,...
might be a bit before I can play with it though.
I recommend One Eye Jack if he still does that sort of work. You'd have to pay him though.

here's a quick one. I don't have much time right now so I just slapped the font on there. I have a few more ideas, but no time right now. This was created in a higher resolution (4000 pixels high) so a larger version can be produced easily.
Great work. I even like the front!
It isn't urgent. So no stress for me please!
P.S.: You've got mail.
wow that's neat Pongo.
Cool i like it! :O)
Reminds me a bit of the hulk because of the green/yellow-colours.
Yepp and I LOVE GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN stuff!
As everyone should know by now.... :o)
Me too when green pairs with yellow...
How do you all like the red gene?
Better than all in plain green/yellow?

The red gene is the mutant one. If they were all green/yellow, there wouldn't be a 'mutant gene'. :)
big10p, you got my idea there! :o)
Just wasn't sure if most of you would like it.
Pngo,
just how did you create that awesome logo? Wanna do me a logo?
@Pongo: The logo is crisp and pretty but the spiral-picture should be rotated to "landscape", making the logo more compact. The bases (Adenine, Thymine, Guanine and Cytosine) on either side should have slightly different shades of green (looks like bambus now) and the red base-pair should look more aggressive, like a cracked surface or even an angry face of some sort.
All IMHO of coz...
Pongo is too good at these, he did the eXigo logo!
really it should all be a different colour like red or blue or purple AND the mutant one should be GREEN.

Ah, I was admiring that yesterday and wondered how YOU made it! :P
Pongo: Any tips on how you go about making logos? What software do you use? Is it ALL done in PhotoShop? For example, how did you go about drawing the DNA helix in the logo above?
Looked like he modelled/light-mapped the DNA thinger in 3dsMax/Maya (whichever), then "logo'd" it up in Photoshop.

Yeah, I thought it looked like a 3D render, but Pongo said he made the logo quickly. I can't image he had the time to model and render it. Dunno.
To some of the questions,...
I thought about rotating the logo sideways to create a bit more square format logo,... just haven't had time since I made the first version. I also may try to place the text to the right of the logo to create a less vertical logo. Also on the agenda is a bit dirtier version that is not so crisp and sharp everywhere, as well as a version that has a distorted face with 3 eyes (Gene)... Just kidding on that one actually. It basically comes down to what Grisu likes though, since it's his logo.
Anyways, how to create this logo in 10 minutes. I use 3ds Max and Photoshop.
1. in max, create a helix shape. This is a primitive shape built in to max, so a few clicks and it is done.
2. duplicate it and rotate it 180 to create the other side.
3. create a rectangle with very small rounded corners and loft them along the helix splines. The rounded corners are very small, but they improve the shading in the render.
4. create a cylinder and position it to connect to two helix shapes.
5. For a bit more interest, I create a small notch in the center of the cylinder by adding 3 segments and scaling down the center segment.
6. Use the array tool to duplicate and turn the extra cylinders into position.
7. Create a light and camera for the scene, throw some basic colors on and render.
Now I take that render into Photoshop and start playing.
8. First, I create a rectangle with rounded corners and use it as a mask on the helix. Using Photoshops fx tools I add a shadow under the helix and soften it. At this stage I also decided to rotate the helix from the straight vertical to make it a bit more dynamic. I also duplicate the rectangle shape twice.
9. the first version is placed below the helix and gets a gradient applied to it. This is a circular gradient from black in the center to green on the edges. I also use Stroke to draw a thin border around this shape.
10. The second version is placed above the helix, and using Photoshop fx tools again, I create the bevel by tweaking a few parameters, and setting the fill opacity to zero so only the effect shows.
That's about it really. I should add that I do work professionally as an animator/FX artist, so I'm quite used to creating graphics in a very short amount of time. (When a client is paying hourly for your time they expect you to be fast, and I've been doing it for over 15 years now)
The Exigo logo took me a bit longer because on that one I sat down with a piece of paper and drew a bunch of versions, eventually throwing most of them away before going to the computer and creating clean versions of the logo in the computer.
Woo, nice work. Thanks for the explanation, Pongo. :)
So Pongo any change of a logo?
not yet, probably won't get a chance to touch it again until this weekend.
@Indiepath
Where can this eXigo logo be looked at?
@taumel,
In my long link of things:)
@Pongo,
It's with the trademark people in the UK :) Now igLoader V2 is complete apart from some serious testing I can start to build the eXigo solution.
@Everyone,
You want a logo, buy Pongo!
What is going to happen to the little dragon? I like him.
I got my nickname from this dragon and use it since I was a kid. I have a 3D puzzle platform game with a dragon like him (B3D) in the "unfinished projects" folder of my hdd. Never found a 3d engine coder as a replacement for the engine coder that left due to time issues. So I guess this little dragon is "dead"...
Hmmm - might have to start a "Save Grisu's Dragon" thread !
Very impressive logo pongo........
I haven't had much time lately, but I finally got a chance to do a bit more on this. I was going to make a version that was a bit more gritty, but then I decided to try a sphere instead.

Not happy with the type yet,... would probably look better just solid black or maybe just a simple font in a flat color.
And here's a desktop image of the logo ball!
God thats amazing.
POOF! You are now a LOGO!!! Watch out for the turtle!
