Ok - so this is post about something non-blitzx, so I guess it'll be shot down at the turnstile - but just been to the video store. I hear there's a 'game adaptation' of the Godfather. I don't know anything about the game, but I've just watched the first film all the way through for the first time. What a fantastic piece of work. What a great film.

I have seen a couple review of the game - apparantly, it is not all that good. Although, not a totally rubbish game - a bit average really.

Still, from what I understand EA's done the usual - take the characters, get the original actors to give voiceovers (if they're agreeable), give a nod to the story, budget for production values, and then it's the usual combat (gun, baseball bat, driving) with a nod to GTA.

I heard it was a load of rubbish. On gamerankings it got anywhere betweeen 57 and 80%
That means it's better than average no? I avoided it even though most reviews I saw were pretty favorable. It just didn't look interesting to me.
I didn't like the GTA series, so I probably won't like godfather which is supposed to be a rip off without the charm! Not that I noticed much in GTA, they always seemed a bit dull and samey without much variation after the first few missions and the godfather is supposed to be even worse.
I usualy take any commercial game review that scores under 80 with a pinch of salt, particularly if there is a big name publisher behind the title. Some publishers put a lot of pressure on the gaming media to give good ratings, much like stores like EB are paid a ton of money to give prominent titles extra shelp space.
My local EB is pretty small, and when I went to get oblivion, EA had bought a whole 4'x8'shelf all to themselves, titles facing out. There was only one other section of shelving for PC games that contained every other recent PC title from all other publishers spine facing out. Was pretty disapointed and probably won't be going to EB again.

I bought it shortly after it came out (having not seen the films) and I thought it was really good. I think most of the reviews I read marked it down because certain parts of the film weren't focused on (obviously not just because of that though). I have completed the main part of the game - I just need to get all the businesses and compounds - and while I don't play it for hours on end any more I still go back to it regularly and take over a few more places.
Stay away from EA, that's all the advise I can give you :
EA - high production values (usually), but conservative gameplay.
EA got me with Fight Night! I was so against buying any EA games but that's a good game all around.
Its' GTA game with GodFather universe. I got bored after 3d version of GTA after 5 minutes, I suppose this one would bore me even faster...

I sure hope so as he had nothing to do with any of the Godfather movies. He was, at one time, considered to direct the GFII but Coppola directed all three films.

yeah the fightnight games were all good and quite innovative controls compared to the oldschool button mashing. Using the analogus stick to throw punches is very intuitive.
Most of EA's good games are usualy aquired by buying someone out. I'm glad they didn't get lionhead, even if I havent really liked molyneux's games since bullfrog (appart from fable, which wasn't really his anyway).
