just call me silly... just call me confused... but believe it or not, all that DOOM3 plastic bumpmapped virtuousity really did some severe damage to my pshyce...
nothing that i make is good enough for me unless i can come up with something that looks like DOOM3...
and i think i've finally found something that lets me!
more in a few...

You're silly, and confused.
lol ... here we go again...
My go, my go.
I think "ENAY" is a bed-wetter.
Right, someone else's go.
I'm Getting Ready To Defect Again
I didnt know that Blitz was the offical programming language of the foreign legion! ;)
Dabz
*nut-kicks Red*
Mario Bros. did the same thing to me, and I've never recovered ;)
BUT Doom3 and Quake4 are a) too dark and b) too shiny. Far Cry is much better. Both games were pap in a number of ways.
Also I'm about to release my BlitzMax Game Framework! Combine that with the imminent release of the Max3D module and you are ready to make pro games yay :-) Of course I'm kidding because although my framework is ready we might as well call the other bit "Max3D Forever" .. joke .. don't flame plz. Not that I care, I'm stuck in the past about 20 years ago when 2D was still cool.
Red... wich Engine ... I love darkness and plastic.
I love darkness and plastic.
no need to confess in public :)
hee hee heeeee heheheheheeeeee... yeah, i know i deserve all the abuse...
i'm dusitng off that ole a6 version and giving it another go... i just couldn't help licensing that Sphere plugin, and low and behold, IT WOIKS!!!
i'm still playing around with it, but so far everything seems to be working...
@ Kuron... i'm also writing up the help files for that OOBlitz Engine too... i didn't forget you, ya ball buster you :)
--Mike
Do you have any screenshots :) Please.
yeah... coming...
ok... here's what i got, messing around with it... managed to add water inside a structure...

all of it's their media... the one box i managed to get in tehre looked soooo gooooey, the normalmapped textures were really bad... so i aint gonna show it :)
actually, that's a good thing... it'll get me texturing these things the right way... finally...
lighting was easy enough to change, and it runs ok on the new mid range setup i just got up, xp/nvidia6100 machine...

Do you have any screenshots :) Please.
Shots from the A6 plugin he is referring to:

we saw them the other day right?
I'm Getting Ready To Defect Again
Oh no!! The ellipsis' are going? What are you defecting to? Brackets? Ampersands? I know! It's those damn circumflexes, isn't it?
here's one of the first things that i got into the engine... not really stuff i should show, but what the heck... you all know i can't skin a cat anyways...

Kuron... i would've had that OOBlitz stuff posted but i had to relearn how to use HTMLHelp... it's been so long since i've touched it.
--Mike
Looks good to me (ie, better than I could do).
@ Kuron... i'm also writing up the help files for that OOBlitz Engine too... i didn't forget you, ya ball buster you :)
Thanks, Hoss
this is my "no comment" - comment.
wait a minute mike, you HATE 3dgs, remember?
..I think Red is cool, so, go for it Mike.. :)
Red, is it your ambition to create a screenshot of rippling water in every engine in existance? If so, good work!
When do we see the A6 shot of rippling water and a sub? ;)
> You're silly, and confused.
An old man basically :)
JustLuke: You're onto something there. Red could make a special website where he shows some water redendered in every engine known to man. It could be quite an arty site and get a cult following.
HAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!
yup, i'm definitely loosin' it...
--Mike
Haha, yeah! 'loosin'.
I think you should loosen some full stops.
Maybe you should just change the title from "SUB FORCE: Pacific Patrol" to SUB FORCE: Forever" because this "today I'm using this engine" sounds more and more like DNF :)
But seriously speaking whatever you think it's right choice for your game is right of course. Shame that Blitz is missing those few final features - if it had those there would be no need to look alternative languages / engines.
:)
yeah... i'm sure if the 3D module were already out, this topic wouldn't even exist...
--Mike
Red: Is the A6 + sphere worth buying today? How cometitive is it against all those engines outthere?
I thought you said you were desperate to finish this thing and start making some money?
@AF...
i actually don't like a lot of things about a6... i consider the scripting language a lil obtuse, the networking is limited (4 only for commercial version, but you can get around this), and they seem to take forever for updates and when they do come out, if there is a major version update, it's gonna cost you...
on the plus side, the level editor makes some nice lightmapped levels... but if you're using Sphere, you won't be able to take advantage of much of it (levels are all models, not native block geometry)...
only the appearance of this latest plugin that has forced me to take another look at it... which is what i'm doing now, so i can't give you a definitve answer to any of your questions above...
i will say that it is capable as anything else in this price category, inspite of my bias against it... best to take a look around their forum to get a feel for what it can do, and what has been done with it... sorry, that's not a great answer, but i can't in truth give a thumbs up or down as far as it's capabilities... it's worth considering that i have pretty much left it alone until this thing though... but you'll be able to decide better if you visit their site...

'defecting' was only to give the 'boys' something to have a lil fun with... development of the sub sim in Blitz is still progressing... but i'll be honest, seeing some of the other games similar to the one i'm doing, those already out, and those in production, i get kinda dissapointed after a few weeks of hard work, when ny stuff doesn't look have as good as the 'competition'... also, i've been having very slight, but still noticable timing issues in Blitz3D... could be my code, could be my artwork that's at fault...
either way, this is something i've gota look at...
--Mike
Thanks for the reply Red.
> yeah... i'm sure if the 3D module were already

Of course it would! :) ... www
well then, lemme rephrase that for the dim of wit amongst us... :P
i'm sure if the 3D module were already out, this topic wouldn't even been started by me...
there E... that better...

Is the 'competition' being developed by full teams, or are they AAA commercial releases, by any chance? If so, I think a reality check is needed, as you're going to struggle to match such games, IMO. :)
> or are they AAA commercial releases
In Red's case they are triple dot games.
I dont have A6 anymore..wait you knew that :P heh
I saw sphere a while back, has it changed much since the first demo?
looks pretty good
Sam
..by the way, what AAA stands for in game world?
hey there Sam, long time no see... i never saw the early demos, wasn't paying to much attention to a6 related stuff...
the current version seems to work though, i've just gotta change my methods of creating bumpmaps before i'll be able to come up with anything decent looking in it...

Anyone else think Enay is annoying?

Another Asinine Acronym.
