Done Oblivion

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Done Oblivion

Well, finished Oblivion last night. Not bad, not bad at all.

So what's next? What do you all recommend?

Do the guilds.

What Noel said. Had over 20 hours of gameplay just doing the Thieves Guild prior to 1st Oblivion Gate involved in Main Quest.

I'll come back to it - I played as a lawful mage, handy with blade, bow and conjuration and only sporadically given to breaking and entering - so I didn't get into the thieves guild side of it.

But I've had enough Oblivion for the moment, need a change.

I see FarCry's come out at a budget price. Might try that.

I'm assuming you've already got Call of Cthulhu because you were looking forward to it. I was disappointed with it big time, personally.

So it has to beTomb Raider Legend! Great game. Finally it feels like you're in an Indiana Jones movie ( well TR is just an Indy ripoff at heart, eh? ) Beautiful locations, a plot, characters, blazing gunfights, death defying gymanstics, real rope swinging, puzzles, loads of hidden bonuses and some really nasty boss battles too. A great antidote to Oblivion, for me, in that it's a pick-up-and-play game which requires no real investment. IE Pure fun.

Still am, but the release date here (New Zealand) has been pushed back to May. I've adjusted down my expectations so I hope I won't be too disappointed - the other thing is I've got one of those Z800 headsets and some games play beautifully in stereo3d (particularly older games that aren't so shader heavy and have minimal HUDs - Painkiller was excellent in stereo). Hope CoC is one of those.

Tomb Raider Legend? Played a couple of the earlier games and enjoyed them (remember zooming about on a snowmobile). Might give it a go.

Wow, I had no idea they were messing about with the release dates. Well I guess how much you'll enjoy CoC depends what you're hoping for. I was hoping for more adventure, and a lot less FPS-bits. I guess I was spoiled by Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice for how Lovecraft's games could work as adventures. This one is still atmospheric, but I just lost interest fast as it put the emphasis in the wrong place for me. A lot of people seemed to like it just fine though, so hopefully it's just me.

the fact that there are very few enemy types and harshly limited ammo with poor aim'n, doesn't make CoC any better...

from what I've heard in reviews anyway...

I don't think I could survive the boredom to complete Oblivion. I haven't played it for a couple of weeks now.

Going back to the original subject of this thread, if you fancy a complete chage of pace then I'd recommend Galactic Civilizations II. It's a strategy game - quite similr to Civilization, but, in my opinion, far better.

As for Oblivion, I've enjoyed what I've played of it but I'm waiting for a few patches to fix the many bugs before I spend significant time with the game.

Nobody likes me in Oblivion, Not sure why. I accidentally stole two things out of sight and everyone instantly knew about it :)

So i havent played in a couple of weeks either. I don't find it boring though. I need to catch that crooked Watchman.

Only just started playing a couple of days ago - seems identical to Morrowind with better graphics and more involved quests but a lot smaller ( at least it feels that way) and with an interface designed for consoles.
Pretty dissapointing so far but probably because I had such high hopes for the AI which seems to be no different from that in Morrowind except for the fact that the NPC's move around a bit.
There is also no point in levelling up as everything else levels up as well when you do ?!?
Great game but only a fraction as good as what I had imagined/ been led to believe.

I'd say that, despite the more advanced graphics, Oblivion is artistically and creatively inferior to Morrowind in almost every way. Morrowind felt eerie and alien, what with the silt striders and strange vegetation, whilst Oblivion, from a design point of view, is a Lord of the Rings (the movie trilogy) rip-off.

I'm always disappointed at how unimaginative and cliched fantasy and sci-fi video game setting are. If it's not "marines, guns, aliens and mutants" then it's "wizards, elves and warriors". Very juvenile. Where are the truly creative designers?

Agreed. I'm on level 2 of something, and I'm not struggling one bit.

Also agreed. The oblivion gate's are a straight rip of the eye from LOTR.

Also, the music is very LOTR like. Tracy thought it *was* LOTR when she saw me on the map screen.
