Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/duke nukem forever
an update,
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=8878The game has been worked on in various forms for almost 10 years, having been originally announced in April 1997, and the update describes the current state of the title, which was viewed at 3D Realms' Texas studios: "mainly just pieces of the game in progress and tech demos", including "an early level, a vehicle sequence, a few test rooms", among others.
o_O
seems like they started over AGAIN?? wtf
ARG. I really want to play it before I die or have no motor control left.
Well, I'm part of the 3DR forums as well, and there are plenty of internal rumors that are spreading through those forums, too, here's the link to that:
http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=13In other news, Prey looks like it's gonna be released, but I thought that DNF and Prey were started right around the same time?! Prey was originally canned, but Human Head revived the game, and are about to release it almost a few months, I believe. That's rather surprising, what gives with DNF?!
see.. the problem is they don't want to settle for some release thats not top notch in the way of graphics and whats hip. however, they are unwilling to innovate for themselves so they attempt to copy some game that just came out. vehicles? where have we seen those poping up all over the place recently? oh yeah.
for whatever reason they just start over rather than finishing what they started. They are obsessed with features and gameplay aspects and not with making a great game.
Ergo, when/if it finally comes out. It will likely be a load of crap.
I still have a "free game" coupon I won from them worth a whole $35 from 1996 or so from one of their camera captioning contests. I might auction it off on ebay when the game is released as a peice of memorabelia. :-) I think it's way past the date it was good for.
as a sidenote DNF was the last time i ever pre-ordered a game;) (no idea if its still active???)
you could actually preorder DNF?!
hah, you might as well pre-order your fusion power, robot piloted personal flying car (with mini bar), and you're more likely to get it!
Alway bet on Duke! Just not bet on him arriving on time. I'm still waiting. I saw that early clip from 98 and then the whole big trailer a couple of years later (Which I think is the best game ad to date - the people who haven't seen it with big screen and subwoofer had really missed out) and I'm still pationately waiting. I get my Max Payne 1,2, Half-Life 1,2 in between, so the waiting is not that painful, but I'm still waiting.
Oh lord, you people are amazing. It's called Forever for a reason, you know.
Anatoly:
I have that 2001 trailer on DVD. Gathering of Developers sent it to me. The downloadable version was better quality though, it wasn't made to be viewed on a TV, and it was compressed a lot more.
Seen that trailer too, and I had to say I was quite impressed (back in that year) how it looked, aside from the player facials.
The only part that worries me is this part of the article:
"The problem is that when we show it, people are going to be like, 'Yeah, whatever'. Honestly, at this point we just want to finish it."
Uhm... Devious... wherever you bought that pre-order from must be full of monkeys:
http://www.3drealms.com/duke4/ (Wow! Incredible number of smilies on that page).
No, you cannot pre-order the game. If you see some online store saying "We are taking pre-orders", they're just trying to get your money (they usually also make up their own supposed "insider release date info", too). There is no release date set, we are not taking pre-orders for the game. End of story.
Duke Nukem Whenever
Duke Nukem Why Bother
Duke Nukem deserves a honorable death, so please just drop the name and come up with something else already. A dead horse can only take so much beating before it resembles a hamburger.
I loved Duke Nukem 3D, but that was ages ago - its time to move on.
Actually, I spoke to Ken Silverman a while ago (hem-hem) and of course he is not now with 3D-Realms, which to my mind explains the problem.
Actually, I am bit like duke nuke em
this was many many many many years ago mr picklesworth
I'm sure amazon.com were quoting an April release (probably the 1st ^^ ) but now their site says September 29th.
I had the trailer from Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project in bink-video format. It was pretty good. But they also showed on E3 if I understand correctly.
Still waiting...
Duke3D was great, and atmostpheric. It could also run in hi res if you had a decent VESA card. Good fun in coop too. I was amazed then by simple things like fire extinguishers blowing chunks out of wall and the pool table and the bar with dancing girls etc. You could actualy put money in their stockings with the use key. Oh and the cubicles with the pr0n movies in etc. It's all coming back to me now :-)
Yes, Duke3D was awesome, mainly because of the Build engine which was also used to power some great games after Duke3D (Like Blood etc.)...
And of course great artwork and design help too... And the adult element of it... Great voice too... It's all coming back to me also! ;-)
I just recalled spending more time building levels with the *ahem*, Build editor, then playing Duke itself, which was alot, Ken Silverman was a god to me back then, easy to use apps in the good ol' DOS times. =\
(considering I used to play Duke3d everyday co-op)
Blood and Shadow Warriors too!
Yes, Ken Silverman is great, he made one of the best engines at the time and it's a shame he doesn't want to come back to the games industry...
I've also used Build to make my own total conversion of atomic duke... Never finished it, but had a lot of fun with it.
Build editor to date is, in my opinions, the easiest 3d level building tool. Even my friend who had never did any of 3d architecture was able to pick it up and make levels in minutes. It was great...
