Windows ME question\problem
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Windows ME question\problem
I`ve recently been using WindowsME and my option to create a new folder on my desktop has dissapeared from my right click menu, i.e. rightmouse>new>folder. As I am usually an XP user could someone suggest a reason as to why this may have happened and more importantly how to get it back. I have never seen this happen before.
Thanks,
Jason.
stop using ME...
my suggestion would be to upgrade. ME is going to give you a lot more problems than that in the future.
ME was the worst of the windows, by far.
What Dampe said, but on a more useful note: have you tried going to the windows\desktop folder in explorer, and then selecting New\Folder from the File menu?
I can't help but I can concurr the ME is a stinker. We had to have one of each OS where I worked and the ME one needed the most reinstalls and had the most crashes by far.
I actually have XP on my home computer I`m just trying to help a friend out with the problem.
Jason.
Try looking at the Desktop.ini file and/or the registry.
Create the folder somewhere else... then move it to the desktop.
Go into regedit and find your way to the following:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New\
Set the 'default' value to:
{D969A300-E7FF-11d0-A93B-00A0C90F2719} (including curly brackets!!)
Back up your registry first if unsure.
By the way - this can also happen in WinXP as its an Internet Explorer issue. The fact that WinME is crap has nothing to do with it.
OK thanks, I`ll give that a try.
Jason.
Kanati seems the most simple, and yet completely ignores the problem... Thats the one I'd go with...
