Shane Monroe also did the original version of the Blitz Basic docs,
I wish he was still doing this. The B2D docs were awesome, they fully explained everything, gave comprehensive examples. Much of Shane's work on the B2D docs were integrated into the B3D & B+ Docs.
With BMax being the first product to not include any of Shane's work on the docs, its easy to see how crucial his contributions were when it comes to the documentation.
If Guildhall and Mark Sibly had been left on their own, Blitz Basic would never have been such a success to begin with.
Exactly!
Shane was also the official distributor of B2D in the USA, and Canada, etc. He also provided a lot of tech support for B2D and went out of his way to help folks with B2D.
At the time Guildhall did nothing to promote, sell and support B2D in the USA.
And in the beginning Mark was running the forums off of a freebie service. Shane's official Blitz support forums were the first professional forums the Blitz community ever had.
Shane got a lot of flack for publicly knocking DB. Shane (like everybody else) eventually ran into problems with Guildhall\Idiotcon and they officially parted ways.
blitzprofessional.com as a rival to this site... Newcomers to Blitz were openly unwelcome there.
After the split with Guildhall, Shane took down the Guildhall related site and put up blitzpro as an alternative, providing support for users and a guildhall free environment.
Newcomers WERE welcome and there was even a forum for newbies. Newbies were not flamed there like they were (and still are) at the forums run by Mark.
Guildhall being bitter over the split started their own Blitz community site. Their community site quickly went under as most people were using BlitzPro or BlitzCoder.
After their new community site went under, the Idigicon vs. BRL problem started. After being banned from the BRL forums, Idigicon then partnered with Blitz Coder and tried to further split the community, while illegally selling BRL products. (At least Pyxia did a better job of stopping Idigicon from illegally selling IBasic & IBasic Pro after being shafted by Idigicon.)
now Blitz doesn't even get a mention on his own site... See how loyal he is?
Although we can appreciate your desire to stir up trouble, this is a lie. Shane uses Blitz and doesn't hide the fact and promotes it. Taken from Shane's site under recommended software:
Blitz+ Gear toward game programming (but can be used to make great apps too), this is the cream of the crop. Fast, easy to learn and use, makes small executables with no dependancies (well, Direct X). Good price too. Has a 3D version too.
Shane is still one of the most loyal Blitzers.
