ok... guess... and no cheating...

i was shocked!!!

--Mike

Ah, that's my new BlitxMax GameEngine, cool isn't it.

Is it yawn3D?

looks like Doom3, Far Cry and AVP combined.

wrong (good one GA :)... wrong...

--Mike

I'm just guessing, but is it... Torque Shader Engine?

Well, whatever it is - I love the external shot - very 'Far Cry' looking.

Hand it over.

It is probably GameStudio A6

aaaahhh hahaha :)

a few more guesses... give the others a chance to play...

you will be surprised though... i was...

--Mike

Was it all made using the amiga version of the Bard's Tale Construction Set?

leadwerks sim engine looks like this but its not out yet? i would say gamestudio a6 because of the steps in the background of one of the screenshots look like they have a error i used to get in game studio where brushs would look like there going in when there going out. that prob makes no sence to anyone but my guess it a6 gamestudio latest version because i havent even looked at it in ages it may have improved.

Pete

Conitec A6 Game Studio, with the Sphere plug-in?

DA DAAAAAA!!!! We have a winner...

it's from a6... i'm an old a6 licensee myself... and i'll be honest, i was really surprised to see this...

just the eye candy i was looking for... and at a price that's affordable to us indies... it will require a decent video card to run though, i'm looking at the demo now...

for more info, check out --> http://matt.brightwatch.com/sphere/sphere.htm

now Pete... can you tell me where you saw the leadwerks sim pics at?

--Mike

It's really smazing to see an engine based on an engine...

At first glance I think it's Torque Shader Engine or TrueVision....

But I cheated (forgive my right mouse button...) later.

leadwerks put a nice little test demo of a few barrels with bump mapping and real time lighting etc looked very nice and its not even finished. im looking forward to it as i love 3d world studio and it all works with the sim engine. i think the demo is still on there forums somewhere.

Yes the a6 plugin looks great i have to say.

Pete

Eh, I was the first to mention it - I want my prize.

Red,

Will it make my A5 commercial license shine any better?

IPete2.

:)

i dunno for sure... me thinks it's a6 only...

--Mike

Won't work on A5 since it's D3D8.

I'm contemplating getting an upgrade from A5 to A6 commercial (half-off, beats what you gits who don't have it would have to pay to use it :D).

In any case, I'm waiting for a standalone demo.

Now back to work on my engine.

Ok thanks Noel,

I have Commercial A5 - the upgrade to Commercial A6 is only $99. I just checked it out. (It should be $199. but because we have Commercial A5 its $100 less - whch seems fair).

That may be worth it with this Sphere add on (which isnt mentioned on the Contiec forums or anywhere - so I guess it must be new...). Also I would have thought that they would release a standalone demo , instead of the source code plus a limited dll of some kind.

So I can only look at the statics at the moment!

(Yes I have seen Josh's demo - its very very nice indeed although it was in its infancy it looked very clean). For me I am still waiting for the BlitzMax 3D module. I am only really starting to look into BMax now, and its hard work with the documentation but what I can do is very nice so far. :)

IPete2.

I'm not very impressed. Yes, the guy may have spent some hours to create some nice plants, and there's the reflections/bumps and the shadows, but that's about it.

A fullversion of A5 was on a cover dvd I bought lately. I never installed it.

I think when the 3D module for BMax is available everybody will laugh about this.

jfk: I suppose the question is whether you want to wait a year for an engine that may or may not live up to your expectations, or get one now that does the job.

E.

We know what Mark has come up with before, I doubt anyone will be truly disappointed with BMax3D - of course I could be wrong, but I think I'd rather wait for Mr Sibly to complete his herculean task.

That siad and I have A5 commercial - it is okay I have done some okay things with it - but out of all my demos there is only one thing I show my clients occassionally which was made in A5.

IPete2.

Pete, Mark worked on an engine with a different API, different requirements, and different intentions.

Comparing his skill in the old D3D7 arena with his skill in the 'next-gen' cross-platform cross-API arena is like comparing a midget giraffe to a giant bull frog.

lol okay bud - you know best, but keep in mind a few things...

(1) Mark wrote Amiga BlitzBasic some 15-20 years ago - so he has a lot of experience in his field, so it was a different cpu, different language, different api, and in a 'different age'.
(2) Mark wrote commercial 3d games before he pulled BB, B3d, and BMax out of his bag of tricks. Not forgetting BPlus and Maplet in the meantime.
(3) Mark is only one bloke (yes that is the downside to speed of development)
(4) Mark has a huge user base ready and waiting for BlitzMax 3D Module - he isn't financially going to let this mod go 'down the pan' and he is capable of it - his record shows it.
(5) Most of us can already programme using Blitz products - most that I know who have tried alternatives such as Torque (which is very good), A6 and others don't seem to be able to get to like them and come back to B3d (and soon BMax 3D).
(6) You are a clever lad, I wish I had your talents and youth, but I don't so what suits me won't necessarily suit you - so disappointment is all to do with your own view on things not mine. Your disappointment may be my glee!

IPete2.

I guess what us fogies have to remember Ipete2 is that a year flies by for us but seems like forever to Noel :-)

That is sooooooo true Jake!

IPete2.

Pete:
1) Two different beasts and fields. Writing a compiler is not the same as writing a graphics engine. I'm saying this from experience.
2) Maplet was a pile of crap. Most knowledge of 3D APIs from games before B3D are useless. When's the last time you saw someone talk about DirectX prior to 7 or, God forbid, OpenGL in its early days?
3) I don't see what this has to do with the quality of his engine. Antony is just one person and he's written quality engines, the fellow behind Cipher is just one person and wrote a quality engine, etc. If anything, having one person makes it better since he doesn't have to put up with other people changing stuff. However, this does not affect the actual quality, since it comes down to his skill and even if he had another person working on it who was better the project would still fail if he fails to implement core components properly.
4) Sure let it happen with BlitzPlus and Maplet though. I'm also inclined to say MaxGUI as well, since it's pretty nasty internally. I'll be amazed if they ever add anything new to it with its structure.
5) I can. Maybe you all just lack the ability to adapt to a new environment? In any case, this has nothing to do with the quality of his engine.
6) Once again, nothing to do with the quality of his engine.

Grey: Yes, but even so you still have to make your products in a certain timeframe, correct? Consider a situation where you need a product out the door soon while still being stable. Let's say you have two options for the core: a) a product out now that's tried and true or b) a product that isn't going to be released for two months, but will be released within the project timeframe.

Let's say that the project takes four months.

Do you
a) Pick the tried and true product (has documentation, a clean record of products using it, etc.) and give yourself the time to learn it.
or
b) Wait for product B on good faith of the developer with very few details on what it will actually be capable of and be like.

Who here is stupid enough to choose B? Now before I commit a fallacy, there's also option c.

c) Develop with product A and evaluate product B, porting to product B while learning it.

The flaw with option C is that you still have the downside of B but with the added problem of porting existing code from product A to use with product B while still learning how to efficiently use product B.

Perhaps all you understand what I'm talking about here?

... plus, what about us real old fogies who only have another year or two left!!!

:)

--Mike

don't be silly Red, with the advances in technology they'll be able to replace your vital organs with old Nintendo console parts in a few years.

E: yeah most people would pick A. B won't work if you have some deadline imposed by a 3rd party. C seems like a waste of time, but at least you are thinking about the core code and may be able to rewrite it better in the new language. However if you have no deadline, B could be fine - potter round with some other projects, then get to grips with the new langauge and bugs when it's ready.

LOL @ GA...

actually, it's my mind i'm worried about... that's what's fading the fastest...

--Mike

actually, it's my mind i'm worried about... that's what's fading the fastest...
They will be able to replace that with AI from the old nintendo games.

yeah as long as he doesn't mind jumping on anything that scares him, bashing bricks with his head in order to powerup and befriending mushrooms, amongst other things.

E.

I refer the honourable gentlemen to the point I made a few moments ago...

(6) You are a clever lad, I wish I had your talents and youth, but I don't so what suits me won't necessarily suit you - so disappointment is all to do with your own view on things not mine. Your disappointment may be my glee!

i.e. I dont really care what you think of BMax 3D module when it arrives, only what I think about it.

I'm not being 'funny' with you here, just honest. If I like it and I like the quality and can get on with it then I shall be very happy with it. (I hope) I shan't be asking your opinion on it. ;)
