Anyone updated to Firefox 1.5.0.2?

Firefox 1.5.0.2 seems a bit strange to me.

With previous versions I just, when launching Firefox, okayed the alert from my firewall and then it was fire-and-forget. Once Firefox had the okay it wasn't a problem.

I updated to Firefox 1.5.0.2 a day ago and now every so often my firewall asks for permission for Firefox to connect - having already given it permission when launching it. However, the destination is not the site I am on, or the one I may be trying to click to get to.

Anyone else notice this? I have noticed it as I don't give anything on my PC automatic rights to connect.

In fact Firfox seems to sometimes wants to reconnect to the current site you are on - for some reason.

It also appears to have a piece missing.

You used to have an option to enable websites to install software - it isn't there. Going to Mozilla's own website for themes and extensions proves it is a fault. When you try to install an add-on it comes up with a bar saying 'Software installation is currently disabled - then gives you an 'Edit button'. However, the old option to enable software installation is missing.

Looks like a new update will be due soon, coz lots of people will spot that omission.

Mmm, I just spotted that the odd permission requests, that my firewall is picking up for Firefox, are it asking to connect to computers in the 'AOL Transit Data Network'.

So, this must be due to websites also being connected to it/utilising it - a bit like the 'akamaitechnologies' situation where your computer can connect to them due to websites utilising their massive distributed computer infrastructure.

Right, glad I cleared that up for everyone.

However, the 'Software Installation' is still broken in 1.5.0.2

1.5.0.2 works fine for me.
And the memory leak is fixed!

I'll give it a look... now using Opera, although it's not powerful, it's light enough.

No memory leak, it is caching pages. My first thought reading puki's first post was that FF was storming ahead trying to preload pages from links in the current page. On reflection, it probably isn't.

The memory leak thing was touted several weeks ago and then dispelled fairly quickly as a 'by design' feature rather than a bug.

I still use Opera, but I have FF installed when I site I really need to visit doesn't play nicely. I still have IE installed for really bad sites that break everything.

Well, with regard to what I initially posted - I also recently update Zone Alarm to Zone Alarm Pro - so it may be watching Firefox more closely than before.

So, a big pat on the back to ZA Pro for spotting the new Firefox connections, which I suspect some of you are not even detecting with your firewalls. The fact that it is advising me in advance means I can look ahead to the IP to find out what it is before Firefox charges ahead.
